Hi!
I have my grandmother's 1997 i30t w/ 120,000 miles on it...
Took it to a local mechanics place that claimed they knew the motor, but tested the Selenoid for ground and power but has no vacuum - the mechanic did not bother to check to see if the valve was stuck closed or if the Charcoal( carbon) Canister was clogged!
So frustrating - has anyone had this issue with the car? Thanks!

I have the issue with the whole evap system on my 1997. It was a clogged canister at first that fixed the whole issue but then the other parts of the system started to go. Still have the issue somewhere in the system.
I have a complete set of parts to replace all the EVAP system from another car that only had 70k on it.
The EVAP system has been my only major issue on the car in the 10 years I have owned it, I might just put a 1995 computer in and delete the whole thing eventually - the 1995 doesnt have the EVAP system

Hi - Did your Evap Purge Selenoid go as well or just the Carbon Canister? It is so frustrating to even find a mechanic that wants to work on the car due to the age, but like yours - the EVAP is the only thing really wrong with it...Originally Posted by aembleton

What symptoms did you have before replacing the canister and how long did it last before other things went wrong?
Thank you!!
