FS: 96 SE 5spd 168k miles leather beige San Diego, CA

***SOLD***

I am selling my 1996 Nissan Maxima SE with 5 speed manual transmission. My car gets roughly 24 MPG with mixed city and highway driving. I drive my car gently and take care of her well; I am a firm believer of preventative maintenance. My car has never broken down, never over heated, and never left me stranded. She recently had an episode with smog checks, but a new catalytic converter and O2 sensors resolved that issue. The car has 168k miles on it but still drives well and accelerates smoothly with no hesitation. The tires and brake pads have plenty of life left. The windows are tinted with high quality tint that won't fade or bubble, and the tint helps protect the leather and trim pieces from solar-induced degradation. My car has not been involved in any accidents or thefts. I have a CARFAX report available that I can send if you're seriously interested. I'm asking $2800 OBO. I am generally available in the evenings and on weekends to show the car. Please email me if you're interested: nerdmanxdx at gmail dot com

General info:
  • 1996 Nissan Maxima SE
  • Color: Pebble Beige
  • 168k miles
  • 3.0L V6 Engine (190 hp, 205 ft-lbs)
  • 5 speed manual transmission
  • Tan leather interior
  • Tinted windows
  • Rated MPG: 22 City, 27 Highway. Actual MPG: 24 mixed city/highway
  • Sunroof
  • Air conditioning
  • Power: steering, windows, seats, mirrors, locks
  • Cruise control
  • Tilt wheel
  • Factory remote and alarm
  • Registered until May 2010. Smogged 2 months ago

Known issues:
  • There is a gash in the fender on the rear passenger side left by the previous owner.
  • Various other dings and scratches around the body.
  • Hood struts are shot. You'll need new hood struts or a stick to keep the hood open.
  • There is a very minor oil leak which amounts to a few drops per day - nothing to be concerned about, and no need to top off motor oil between changes.
  • The LCD on the radio is faded, but the radio otherwise still works.
  • The front passenger side splash guard is ripped off at the bottom (from the previous owner), but this has not caused me any issues with the drive belts or otherwise.

Mods:
  • Unorthodox Racing UDP - I would swap this onto my new car, but these are a pain to install
  • SS clutch line
  • Engine ground kit (if you call this a mod - mostly just helped the car start quicker)

2800 for that 13 year old P.O.S. really!!! I also see a lot a guys modding the hell out out fo their cars and selling it...so when I buy what is left for me to do? The more I look at these classified the more sense I see in going to the dealer and buying a non mutilated car.

Hard to sell @ that price especially in this kind of market at the moment. If you want to sell it you'll probably have to drop the price even more even though it is a decent 4th gen.

Car was sold yesterday for $2500.

Chewabacha, I appreciate the constructive criticism.
Shook and B-rad, thanks for the support.

Augustus, off the top of my head, the KBB private party value in my zip when I checked a month ago was $2200 fair, $2900 good, and $3400 excellent. I think my asking price was fair. 13 years old? Yes. POS? No.

I'd much rather purchase a used car from an owner than a dealer because you get a sense of how the previous owner treated the car. That being said, 2 months ago, I went against my own instincts and purchased a 97 maxima from a dealer since I couldn't find any other low mileage (relatively low anyway) manual transmission maxes anywhere. She's still running fine, but I'm slowly finding out how terrible the previous owner was at maintenance.
