You know guys, I see lots of people posting up where it should be. But in all honesty, most of the ones that posted wont make it no matter where it is.
Just like this past Maxus, many posted that they would be there, and in the end they pulled a no show.

Which is why this is to be planned as early as possible to that people can know, make plans, get time off, save up for gas, hotel. For any event be it a car show or anything else, not everyone who plans to go will go, but with a good amount of time to be aware of it, people should know wheather they are going to go or not.
I knew last year I wouldnt go because it was going to fall on my 1 year anniversary. But if lets say May 16th 2006 was the day, if people know they dont have any birthdays to worry about, no anniversaries, nothing like that, and they want to go nothing should really be stopping them from doing so. People should discuss this early with their signifigant others so that its all clear. We have about 6months (give or take) for people to save a couple hundered for gas and lodging.

This past Maxus was posted a year in advance.
The turn out wasnt stellar, but it was still good times. Anyone who didnt show sure missed out. Specially all of the Texas crew. I was embarassed that more of them didnt show. Like I said I am definately down for a nice road trip and will attend the next Maxus. I need a vacation so lets have it in ATL.
We did this last year as well.
a 10 pg thread of people arguing where it was going to be and everybody wants it in their backyard. I don't necessarily blame them, but if you hold it in the center of the country (anywhere from Chicago to Dallas), you're going to get a few from each coast and a bunch from the middle. you're also going to get a bunch of people with their panties in a wad because it wasn't in SoCal or NE or Atlanta. frankly, GET OVER IT. there are people all over this country and I don't expect to hold a national event in SoCal and exclude the NYC crew. I also don't expect to hold it in NYC and exclude the SoCal guys. that's just too much driving.
If it's going to be in dallas, Tulsa, Austin, or Houston this year, I'll plan it and it will be better than last year. (IMO, I think I did a pretty damn good job of the event considering I'd never planned one before.
)
If it's going to be in Atlanta, Chicago, KC, Florida, NYC, Vegas, LA, whatever, I'll do my best to make it, but I'm not going to try to plan an event 1000+ miles away. it was hard enough and expensive enough to go 250 miles for me. I spent well over a thousand bucks in phone bills, stamps, gas back and forth in meeting with hotel mgr, track owners, dealerships, etc... And another $1500 in t-shirts that I only sold half of.
I have contacts set for Dallas, Houston, Austin, and Tulsa... but none anywhere else.. so if you want it done by me again and done better, I'll be in one of those four places. (with the exception of Austin, they all have good dragstrips and road courses within 1 hr driving. Houston now has TWO road courses within 1 hour, including the one we went to last year from Dallas.)
Polls aren't going to do anything but create arguements like this thread already is. bunch of talk and nobody doing anything.
If you want me to take charge, I'll do it and make the event where I feel it would be best. If you want it somewhere other than one of those three places, then someone else needs to step up to the plate and take the reins of this wagon.. and they'd better do it quick, as the planning needs to be done by the end of Jan or early Feb to make things run smoothly.

With that Said Matt I'm down for anywhere in TX. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I know a lot of people would love to have it at their city/state so that travel isnt necessary, but I love long car rides so I have no prob with a good drive to TX.
Plus all those who are fighting to get it in their state I'm sure wouldnt do much to make it a great event. I say TX, I heard you have great maximus last year, and if you plan to out-do the last year, I will be there. Lets set a deadline to have a month and date set so that the ball can get rolling, and we can know to plan accordingly.

The date will be late may, early June.
a couple weeks earlier than last year to try to combat the heat, but late enough the college guys and the few of you with children in school will be able to attend..
what I need now is a ballpark date of when all the college guys are going to be done with school. I know some places are done early may, others in late may.
but I want to plan the event as early as we can to prevent the guys like Cattman from dying in the heat again. Poor guy was sick for a couple days after standing in that heat and humidity all day long.

TX, is in the middle of Mexico. I really would not consider that a central location. I do not think it would be a bad location, I just get tired of people saying its in the middle of the country.
Matt, TX sounds great again. SpiG and our group will be there again. Other than the meet, Speedzone was the highlight of my trip.
I had a blast there. And since no one else is stepping up to the plate to actually plan Maxus in their locality, I guess you could always do it again. Since you already have all of the information written down, it should be a hell of alot easier for you this year too.

just FYI, it's almost 600 miles to the closest city in Mexico, and 1300 miles to Mex City.
Distance To Dallas:
Salt Lake City: 1878
NYC: 1549
Miami, FL 1360
Los Angeles: 1438
Seattle: 2203
Charlottesville: 1209
Las Vegas: 1217
Avg distance: 1550
Longest distance: 2203
shortest distance: 1209
and you have the shortest distance of all the major cities I mentioned!
Distance to Charlottesville, VA:
Salt Lake City: 2076
NYC: 342
Miami, FL: 1022
Los Angeles: 2551
Seattle: 2875
Dallas: 1209
Vegas: 2336
avg distance: 1773
longest: 2875
shortest: 342
Distance to Las Vegas:
Salt Lake City: 420

Los Angeles: 270
Seattle: 1259
Dallas: 1217
Charlottesville: 2336
avg distance: 1514

so as you can see, no one location is really better than the others for average distance, but to minimize the longest drives, Dallas is a FAR better choice.
I could go on and on, but it you want to have it on the east coast, start planning! It won't be me doing the work!

Matt - Tulsa, Dallas, Austin, Houston - they're all good... I'll be there again. The last one was really fun, - you did a great job of organizing it - and the hot dogs and buns were fantastic!

I know you need someone with serious connections to make this event work, and I'm not connected, but Kansas City could do the event proud. They have a new NASCAR track, a hyperactive drag strip with test-and-tunes on Wed. and Friday plus lots of weekend events, several dynos, casinos, jazz, barbecue, they're served by I-70 , I-29 and I-35, and have everything 1 1/2 million people need. ( Right, Dave B ?). Oh, well, it's just a thought... I'll come again.
you still did not prove a point, I was not arguing with you. You named a bunch of cities that are on either coast. All I saying is that if you can plan it somewhere, say 600 miles further north you may get more people. I have no desire to plan this and I am not arguing with you, just making a point, you are much closer to mexico than any of those other cities you mentioned.

If Matt is going to do this again. You put together an awsome meet last time. Much props for that. You had no control over the people who didnt show, and like I said already, their loss. If I can help you out man, let me know.
Ya, and a
on the Speedzone event....that was definitely the best part of the trip. This year, I hope to have enough money saved up for the road course day as well. Matt, I think OU gets out like the 2nd week of May, so no trouble there. My vote would be for Tulsa or Dallas; Tulsa because of the great road course right near it, and Dallas because of Speedzone

i think the weekend of the may 20th sounds good....it won't be too hot and by then, people are bound to be out of school....i'm with matt on this one; i saw how good his event was last year, and i'm sure he could even make it better this year....
I know LSU's finals are over on the 13th of May. So Middle to late May would be fine with me. It was really hot so having it when it is a little cooler would be great.
I am all for Matt doing it again next year. TWS was great, and maybe I will not exhaust myself from driving too much and be able to go to speedzone. I am sure there are a lot of cities that could hold Maxus and have lots of fun events, but unless someone actually starts to make arrangements then it won't matter. If anyone else wants to step up somewhere else in the Middle of the country that would be great, but for 2006 my vote is that we should just let Matt do it again.
If we wait too much longer to bicker over where it should be then it will be no where or won't be as well prepared.

I agree 100%
Matt did a great job before, I had a great time.
The TRIBE has spoken....Dallas, TX , in May and Matt( who did such an awesome job last year) will head the preparations.
Where: Dallas, Texas
When: TBD
I'm tired of seeing it go back and fourth...SPIG is right, if we keep arguing
May will be here in no time and nothing will have been done.

Dallas sounds good to me... Im going to Tentatively say May 26-26 weekend. That's memorial day though. good: people have 3 days weekend. bad: people planning family stuff, vacations, etc already.
that also puts it about two weeks earlier than last time. I'll put up a poll with the 3-4 weeks around that and go with what comes up the best.
also remember I have to schedule this in with other car clubs looking for track events, dealership schedule, etc. hopefully this year we'll be able to get into the track that's closer to dallas and in to TX Motorplex (dragstrip).
as for activities, I'm going to plan basically the same thing we did last year, only try to add the dragstrip as well.
road course one day, speedzone in evening..
car show/meet, drag event that evening
dunno if I'm going to mess with the dyno like I did last time. it went okay, but not too many people showed up and the location wasn't the best. next time I'll try to find another place closer to everything else if we decide to do it again.
Ramberg, yes I still have a bunch of T shirts from '05. I think I have about 15 XLs and that's about it.
