It helps with reflections. A typical tweeter up high is not that big of a poblem. If you put a dome midrange up top playing down to 300 you will really have probles. I have a new suede dash mat comming. The one you see was for testing purposes and last minute reflection stopper for a show.
I have around 600 pics and would love to post more info on some of the things in the car. I have to keep some of it on the down low for comp purposes.

I will post up more pics in the week or so. I am trying to finish up for a show in Feb and still have lots of pictures that I don’t have downloaded at the moment.
I have a really trick water chilling cooling system that cools the amps. Got the bitone trim ring painted white. Got custom floor mats coming and the suede dash mat.
I have my suspension components coming and I should have my wheels ordered by next week.
I originally wanted to keep the car all stealth. It is still a family daily driver. But some of the upcoming shows really needed a little flash on the car.
Only downfall is the wheels I am going to get are the xxr 006 with a black middle. The car is white and I am not sure how that is going to fly. But I am only willing to spend $600 on the wheels. I would rather put the big money in the stereo.

Excellent install. Much higher in caliber than I can ever accomplish with the time that I have Addicting hobby!

It does make a difference where the mid is I do agree with that. But regardless of where you put the mid if you take the dash mat out it does make a difference. Technically things look good on paper but when you put in a car environment all rules change. Also I will not give any detail on how the midranges are mounted but alot of time and testing went into the final placement.
Wavelengths are much too large for a dash mat to have any effect on midrange frequencies. Best you can do is mount the midrange drivers as close to the boundaries as possible, preferably in the corner. The idea is that reflections will be nearly in phase with the direct signal, to a certain extent.

Final decisions were real world trained ear listening by multiple folks. Like I said take it out and you will hear the difference immediately. If you take off your door panels and tune the car and put the door panels back on you change the final outcome you will have to tune to take care of problems. You can hear the problem with just the midranges playing and, you can really tell at higher volumes. This could very well be caused by the dash shape and the windshield. But anything thing that can absorb sound will help with reflections of any form. Testing is a very important tool in car audio, but your ears don’t lie. And sometimes testing can give you false hope. By no means am I knocking the testing because it is a very helpful tool. We spent a lot of time testing with measurements in the car but the final tunes were determined by the human ear, including the decisions on the bass traps and dash mat. I guess what I am saying is that the mat helps us have a little more control on the final outcome. I am not saying it stops the problem all together.
Do you have any measurements to support this theory? Preferably before/after; at least three gated measurements averaged together. I would love to see them. A lot changes in a car, yes. But you can't change physics. I think what you will find is that they have a much more pronounced effect in the mid to upper treble, rather than the midrange.
Either way, you should be more concerned about the side windows. It's unfortunate we can't do anything about those

I do not post a lot on here BUT YO go to the top of the top class with this install nice work .this job would be 11-14 k if you had a shop do this for you .From time to time we do jobs like this and they take up all your shop time .this is sweet A1 job

The 4 ohm RMS ratings are as follows
ch 1+2 is 50 x 2 hybrid class a
ch 3+4 is 160x2 class ab
ch 5 is 800 class d
tweeters 50x2
dome midranges 50x2
midbass 160x2
front subwoofers 160x2
rear subwoofers 800 each
I would rather not say what I have invested in the system. I can tell you we are bumping 800 hours on the car audio install.
