I suppose this might be a dumb question, but what's with the X's on the headlights? I see this on older cars like yours ALL the time, especially older BMWs, and I don't understand it. Anyone care to chime in and provide some insight on this?

That's a sweet looking car though. I agree with the need for deep dishes, would look sick for sure.

And this is why searching whether it be on the forums or googling is your best friend.

I tried but I couldn't find a clear answer. Googling "x's on headlights" didn't provide the best results.

I guess that makes sense about the track throwback thing. It reminds me of the original Herbie movie with all the cars having it on their headlights now that I think about it.

Exactly. When in doubt I always Google. I can't stand when people ask questions that a simple, less than two-second search of the site or Google will answer. Google didn't give me any answers which is why I asked here.

I'm going to look into this more though. I'm intrigued now.

I am not going to tell you all to search to find the answer... because in that time I take to type "GO GOOGLE DAMN IT" I can type up your answer.

"I'm told it is a cross between Greek Mythology and ancient Egyptian Heiroglifics. Many racers follow a superstition that the The god of tape will make them faster if they use secret Egyptian symbols on their headlights.

But I say, it's probably so if a stone flys into the light and shatters it, all of the glass doesn't go all over the track and give everyone flat tires."

Also I read that it was a style of some 1950's race car thing.

what did you search to get a answer? i typed in "X's on old car headlights" and you just get links to headlights for sale or headlight polish

actually race car put them on so when they crash or some how the headlight lens breaks all the pieces dont shatter on the track and makes for easy cleaning. but also i think older cars do it for "style" more than what its actually intended for.

this is a great start for doing bosozoku style on it. not necessarily the full style but like an inspiration from that style. an oil cooler mounted on the front bumper and maybe a bit lower (which i honestly think the height it is at now is perfect) would look pretty damn good IMO. the way the car is now looks really good as well...
