My Project Z

I bought my Z about a year ago with a broken timing belt. I figured I would just go though the heads to see which valves were bent. I replaced all the valves I thought were bent. (stupid) I got her running but lacked some serious power. So it sat in the garage all winter until I came across a deal I couldn't pass up.

My friends uncle had an 87 300zx with an extra transmission and turbo engine. So I drove roughly 1500miles round trip to pick up this car for parts. Its a shame it only has 98k on it.

So later this winter I started working on removing the engine from my gray Z and started to tear it down. I then started tearing down the turbo engine to find that there was rust buildup in a few of the cylinder walls.

Anyways swapped over the internals and heads from the turbo engine to the na block. and found these from the na engine!

Anyways swapped all the parts and replace the bearings and rings with geniune nissan parts.

Then got around to throwing in the new engine about a month ago.

All in and running great now!

On to some random pics.

Since then I've swapped the glitchy digital gauges for analog gauges and reassembled the interior. I also installed new Accel 8mm spark plug wires to replace the old taylor ones.

Mods include:
-Coilovers
-Full Poly Bushings
-3" downpipe
-K&N Filter
-Spec Stage 2 clutch
-Accel 8mm Plug wires

Still breaking in the engine and clutch but will soon turn up the boost. Sorry for the long posts. I know I'm leaving out a lot but you get the picture.

Oh I know. It looks better already Those pictures were from when it first left the garage after a year. I plan on swapping the front facia off the 87 to my 86.

A little update.
-I had a full 3" exhaust made from the downpipe back to a flowmaster.
-Swapped my welded differential for my open differential. Feels so great to turn and not shred up my tires!
-Bought a staggered set of 18" 350z wheels.
-Finished my in dash gauge pod to hold my boost and wideband gauges.
Slowly shes coming together.
