You can start piecing together your turbo set up now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Turbo-Manifold-Flange-for-Turbo-CT26-With-Welded-On-Adaptor-Toyota-MR2-/300903804461?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item460f43ae2d&vxp=mtr

My understanding is that they have oil starvation problems. Grassroots Motorsports tried to do some racing in a V6 Camry and they blew two motors due to starvation, and a buddy who put one in his MR2 and did rally-x with us also blew two up before giving up on the car/motor. They just ain't no VQ Now I believe those were both the slightly older 3.0 versions, so maybe the newer 3.3/3.5 motors will hold up better, but I don't know.

VQ that have oil burning and bearing problems?

i think in general Toyota has always made really good straight 4 and straight 6, their V6 are just good for a commuter and not performance. V8's are kinda meh too except 1UZ which were the bees knees

ive seen some 1MZFE (V6) go to 400,000km+ without any major work, but again if you start going into performance capabilities on them i dunno

Meh it's cheaper than a 3SGTE swap because for that you need an entire rear clip whereas a V6 will work with the stock axels and tranny for either the Turbo or NA trim. Apparently can be done for less than 2K but this is all far off in the future

So today we had some of the DMV MR2 owners get together for lunch. Cool guys and cool cars, braved through the cold to snap some photos here we are:

I wouldn't go too far on praises for Toyota's 4 bangers. There is a good reason why Honda K series and SRs end up under the hood in place of a lot of Toyota 4s, lemme ask you when have you seen another 4 cylinder end up in a car that came stock with either a K series or SR, if not just a bigger version of the same motor. Even the beloved 4AGE, i can understand the nostalgia factor for throwing a 20V version in a AE86. But Honda's B16B, without the ITBs will **** on it, makes both more power and torque at a lower RPM.

The 3S is really the only solid 4 and there is not reason to replace it with another 4 unless its a K series and even that's a stretch, and the reason why is its built like the 2JZ with a super strong block and rotating assembly. Me personally if i was swapping unless i could fit a 2JZ in an MR2 i would look outside of Toyota for a solid motor to seriously build upon.

Crusher makes a good point, Toyota's only good 4 cal. is the 3SGTE. The 5SFE isn't a performance designed engine, but that being said my MR2 is still quick - I'd let you all drive it if you came down

But I still fancy a V6 over it all, want something different and cheapy cheap

Anyways, my friend Jamal came through and sent me his awesome photos of the meet with me. Definitely worth sharing

It snowed a good amount today, and so I wanted to make a mini-movie. Let me know what you think!

I wanted to go faster, but the tread on my rear tires is pretty low. They are all seasons as well:

Good purchase! That should help stiffen the chassis up since you're a targa. Surprised it didn't come that way from the factory.

That stack is awesome too!!

Meausured my sway bar since I have polyurethane bushings laying around. Didn't have a 19mm wrench, but put a 3/4 on there. Fits fine, I can twist it left and right ever so slightly. Think my bushings will work?

IN addition, I need to take care of my rust. Yuck

HORROR SCREAM

Also I am thinking of plastidipping my second set of rims white with a red stripe on them. Going for the marlboro evo look. What you guys think?

By no means did i mean to put down your plans, no matter what you choose its IF it fits your goals and needs, now if you just want a fun responsive car by all means throw a nice 1/3MZ in there and tune it to perfection. Because they are still good motors, not much aftermarket but in a 2500-2700lbs car. That torque.

The other day i drove a 1st gen miata for the 1st time now it wasnt OMG quick but for that weight the power really was adequate enough to have fun, i was surprised.

It's all good, a V6 would be awesome to swap in if I can work all the technicalities out.

In the meantime, I am looking to do some Auto-X events and a hyperdrive track day at Summit Point raceway in WV ^___^

...once the MVA approves my registration. Dumb people, they thought I had a lapse in coverage and so I haven't driven the car in 2 weeks!
