New 6th Gen Maxima Owner from Alberta

Sup everyone? Thought I'd introduce myself here. I'm From Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and i just bought a very used 2004 Maxima SL. It has 350,700km or 217,900 miles on it. Previous owner said almost all mileage was highway and maintenance/fluids done every 10k. Not many issues so far, it's still in great shape cosmetic wise, minus a few scrapes here and there. The car seems to run strong and the transmission is smooth. But, when you start the car after the initial time in the morning, it takes about 2-3 seconds to fire, and will sometimes bog around 500 rpm before kicking up to 750~. Also, while stopped at red lights, or in traffic, it will bog a bit and buck slightly, which bothers me. A friend said i should inspect the catalytic converter for clogging, but i also think if i can adjust my idle to 1000rpm, it may resolve the problem. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum! The car looks good. Regarding to the issue you described, sounds like a bad fuel pump. My 06 had very similar symptoms(if not the same) and the fuel pump was the culprit. Replaced it myself and only paid $50 for a used pump off ebay and my car has been running great ever since. Is your car throwing any codes?

Thanks! No codes are coming up, though 'engine maintenance soon' has been on since i bought it. It could be the fuel pump... i will have to take a look at it, is it external or in the tank? The engine runs smooth and has good power as soon as i take off.. I am willing to replace or repair anything that needs to be done to get it running nicely.

You can access the pump from under the back seat and yea my car wasn't throwing any codes either. It would take about a 3 sec crank to start and kinda sputter at first. And every now and then it would bog a bit at a red light. But yea check it out and let us know if you get it fixed. Good luck!
