Not strictly an owner.
Not strictly an owner.
...well, to be honest not a current owner at all.
However, I fell over this site on the Internet, and it was nice to see some old names from my past, when I was David94SEL on 4dsc.
I'm delighted that Maximas, and especially 3rd Gens, like my old white, beige leather interior 1994 auto are still going, so I registered to say hello.
After disposing of my 3rd Gen God knows how many years ago, I went to the Dark Smoky Side, and a manual 1.9 AFN 110 hp diesel Passat. Fab car.
Had to get rid of that as mother in law had to come and live with us, and she could only get into a Citroen C3. She brought along a 1.6 petrol Auto. Shocking car. Not fast and 22mpg. (I could get better mileage out of a Max
)
As it was low mileage, chopped that in for a 92 bhp 1.6 litre manual diesel, which I still have. Ideal city (London, as in LondonEngland) car. Excellent engine, but the build quality and feel of the tinfoil you put around the last chicken you roasted. (Sadly, I can't offer a vegetarian alternative for that analogy, but you get the idea.)
Now having reached old, retired git status, I've moved to the country and was looking for a saloon. A 2004 1.9 130bhp AWX engined Passat was the target, being the last non-exploding decent engine they made. No decent ones about. All owned by folk who flooded their plenums and drowned their ECUs and passengers' feet.
No decent Maximas to be found. Geordie seems to have got the last one (Yes. Jealous). But I had become a manual diesel fan.
Skipping the next 30,000 words, I ended up with a reasonably good condition manual 2003 Rover (RIP) 75 in White Gold. Some small external dings, but a spotless interior, all wood and aubergine leather. Downton Abbey with the non-self destructing 2 litre BMW turbo diesel.
I know it instantly aged me 30 years, but never mind. Luxurious wafty barge that really handles and gets going surprisingly well. Only had it a couple of days, but still getting used to piloting something the size of a tennis court around, after being so used to the C3.
A very decent car, and giving me some very Maxima-ish vibes.
If this link works, skip to about 35 seconds in. I have no idea why more car manufacturers don't use their products as analogue synths...
