1997 Maxima

My maxima has 238k miles. I'm thinking about getting the timing chain replaced. Would that be worth it?

What problems are you experiencing that make you think that you have to do such a major repair job?

Not really having any major problems. I just want to do it as a precaution.

OK, then don't do it. Car's with timing belts need to be changed regularly.
Cars with timing chains, assuming regular maintenance, like oil change every 5K or so miles, don't. The timing chain will last the life of the car.

Now, timing chained cars, like ours, have timing chain guides and tensioners that may need replacing. If you here some strange chain noises when starting your car, look into replacing those.

Or, perhaps switch back to using a Nissan OEM oil filter. Some aftermarket oil filters don't have the same flow rates as OEM, and can cause startup noises.

Hope this helps.
