I just cleaned my throttle body about a half hour ago and now my idle is kinda of acting up. It's idling a little low and when I am in neutral (5 speed 92 SE)and give it gas, it revs up and then dips way below idle RPM and almost stalls out. It did this a few times but now its a little better after driving it a bit. I did a search on throttle body/idle problems and saw that it is suggested that we put the ECU into diagnostics mode and then adjust the idle. I found some directions for doing this on a VG but I didn't know what the difference would be for a VE. Any help with resetting the idle and ECU would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

did you drive around for a little bit after the car was started? I drove around for half an hour to make sure, and after the driving, the initial crazy idle calmed down

 

first try disconnecting the negitive lead to the bat that will reset the system then try it

 

I drove around for about 10 minutes or so...but I didn't want to risk stalling out so I headed back to my house and figured I'd see what I could find out from here. I am gonna go try it again and see what its like now.

 

I did that as well before going out...still idling funny.

 

make sure that all the hoses and stuff are hooked up correctly make sure the tb bolts are tight. also did u get a new gasget when u cleaned the tb

 

I just took it out again, and re-checked all the connections, everything is tight and it appears to be idling better now. RPMs are still a bit low at some points but it was intermittently like that before the tb cleaning as well. Thanks for your comments and help guys! Just for future knowledge though, I would still be interested in knowing about the diagnostics mode of the ECU and resetting the throttle. Thanks!

This sounds like MAFS problems, its well know that the connector for the MAFS go lame. So what you should do is disconect the MAFS connector and use a fine nail on the cable side (female connector) and use it to pinch down the connector so that it will grab the male connector on the MAFS more strongly. Just remmember that you dont want to crush down the connector too hard b/c you will ruin it or it will be too tight to install onto the MAFS, squish it down a good amount but not all the way.

BTW its not necessary to reset the computer after doing a TB cleaning.

Your all off it sounds like you might have moved that throttle position sensor on the side of your throttle body, if you moved that it will make your idle go off and act like its going to cut off. Get some one to watch the rpms while you adjust it and tighten the bolts!
