Insurance doesn't cover engine mods
Insurance doesn't cover engine mods
I have full coverage through Farmer's Insurance. Now I'm getting all of my aftermarket stuff insured (audio equipment, HIDs, wheels). Unfortunately, they don't cover engine modifications (SC, BOV, etc). I didn't check on stuff like Y-pipe or exhaust, but I'm guessing they count as engine modifications.
Farmer's Insurance is one of the big providers, so if they don't cover engine mods, I'm sure most of the others won't either. Anyone want to prove me wrong?
What I'm worried about is someone stealing my car, going for a joyride and destroying the SC. If that happens, it isn't covered by insurance!

For an extra charge, you might be able to add a rider to the policy to cover mods.

If you tell your insurance company what extra $$'s you're putting into your car, they should be willing to cover it...of course for an added fee.
No one wins the battle with insurance companies...sure, you have your victories, but in the end they got ya by the nutz.
insurance claims
It's been years since I've tried to get money from my insurance company so pardon my ignorance. But can't you simply say that the add-ons were stolen along with your car (rather than being part of your car)? Like if you had your wallet in the car when it was stolen.

I used to have renter's insurance, and that policy covered stuff in my car, storage places, etc. I'll check to see if renter's insurance will cover the SC and other items in the car. It's only $150 a year.

You got that right, SC installs cost a lot! I'm going to check into the home owners policy thing to see if it will cover personal affects in the car.
