Is it possible to wire a LED or some sort of light to tell if the knock sensor->

is detacting a knock/ping? With my exhaust as loud as it is right now, I'm afraid I won't able to hear a knock or ping quick enough for me to back off the gas. Has anyone tried this?

Why would your Maxima knock? Are you using 91+ octane? If you are, you should have nothing to worry about. If the knocking becomes bad enough, I'm sure the check engine light will come on, and then you can pull the code for that.
This something I've worried about. In my old car (94Z28, LT1 motor), the O2 sensor was overly sensitive. If you had a loud exhaust, headers, and such, the O2 sensor would mistake the noise as knock and it would back out timing A LOT. The way we rememided this was by using a less sensitive knock sensor out of the LT4 Corvette.
I've always worried that the Max knock sensor might be overly sensitive and might "hear" our exhausts and Y-pipes as knock.

I'm in the process doing a direct port nitrous kit. I want to get all the monitoring equipment out of the way first. I have a fuel pressure guage and an EGT. These are great to make sure I have enough fuel and I'm not running lean. Since the Maxima comes with a knock sensor to retard timing when encountering detonation. I want to know my engine is detonating so I can let off the gas to prevent further damage. You can usually hear it, but what if it's so slight that I don't hear it. Or my exhaust and engine is so loud that I can't hear it. If the knock sensor sends a signal to the ECU, I want a visual warning.

Ok...after thinking some more-->
I would assume a LED is much easier. It doesn't draw that much power, so I might able to hook it up in series of the sensor wire. I do however think something like a shiftlight would be cool, but it will require some sort of relay which might slow it up a little. I think this mod would be cool for anyone that's running has a SC or Nitrous.

There's a device called the J&S Safeguard... it's a motor + an external control that can control knock very effectively. goto bbs.theoldone.com and do a search for it... it's costly, but it'll save your engine's life.

Shing,
Does J&S have a website? I can't seem to find information for the unit. It does have the ability to retard timing which is another thing I was looking for. I talk to MSD about their DIS-4. It does not work on the Maxima.
