low pickup/power and miles per gallon....

I've lived with the low power and pickup up to now, but the new twist in this is that the miles per
gallon on the car is now slowly dropping - and that was a wakeup call that something was
really wrong.

any ideas what could slowly be going bad ?

thanks...

Man, that could be absolutely anything. Kind of a broad subject. It could be something simple like spark plugs, wrong ones, or plugs going bad. They could have a lot of deposits on them. How do they look? Could one or more bad plug wires. I would also check the oxygen sensor. A bad sensor could really screw up your fuel mixture and affect performance and mileage. Could be a clogged converter. That'll really bog things down. But it could also be something as serious as lost compression. You could be losing compression in a couple cylinders. You may want to have that checked also.
