I was browsing the hondasociety boards and saw a thread called "maxima vs wrx" where the wrx got his lunch eaten by a 4th gen 5spd. He whooped the wrx bad, too.

Wow, I didn't know i was a member... anyways, here's the poor guy's post:

" wrx vs maxima
in a wrx, fooling around with the new blow off valve, having lotta fun.

out of no where, maxima rides my ***, i switched lane, he got next to me, we both stop at red. i look at him, he revves. i laugh in his face, he revves again.

i figuare i cant possibly lose. i launch at 4000 rpm, figuaring for a easy win. light turn green, we are off, i launch at too high of rpm, tire didnt grip on, he got in front 1-2 car length. i figuare once turbo is in, i will be gone, but he ****ing keeps pulling. but 60mph, he was 4-5 cars ahead.

next light, i tried again, better launch this time, similar result, he ****ing pulled hella.

i knew my launch wasn't bad, how the **** did the maxima pull so much. pretty sure there was no nitrous, all i heard was a intake and exhaust.

wtf is that? maxima can't possibly be that fast!!! "

It takes 2 seconds to sign up and then you can view the thread... I just did it. Just fill in like 5 blanks.

As for the thread, even I think that Maxima must have either had boost or been Bruce (papsmurf). No other Maxima owner except for theblue can even run a 14.3 and I don't think theblue would smoke him like that.

Whoever that 4th Gen was, good stuff, I've seen WRX's take off and I think I would've put money on a WRX stock for stock but that Maxima had to have boost

You have to compare boosted Maxima with WRX, for the WRX come 14.5psi boost from the factory.
I've raced a stock WRX from a dead stop. I am supercharged.
We were at the light. Initially, I though, no way I'm going to able to beat a WRX from a dead stop, but what the heck...
The light turns green & for the first (& probably the last) time in my life, I had a perfect launch. Even then, the WRX just bolted straight ahead & got about 1-2 car lengths. I hit the rev limiter in 1st gear, downshift into 2nd & punch it. I start gaining on him & by the time I shift into 3rd, I was dead even with him.
By the time I reached 80mph, I had about 1-2 car lengths on him. Since the speed limit on that road was 45mph, I flashed my hazards & started slowing down.

Now, if you put $5,000 worth of "go-fast" upgrades to a WRX, I think it would be a challenge even for a boosted Maxima.

Cheers!

just my opinion....but i think that post on the board from that supposed "ricer" is bull****. I've seen the WRXs drag and they hardly ever (1 out of 10 times , if that) burn out because of their all wheel drive. More often that not the WRX bolts off while the CRX or eclipse or whatever is still left spinning it's tires.....

My friend used to have an auto WRX and he upgraded the turbos and was running some really sick boost. He said he took it to the track and he just planted the accelerator and the car shook violently and swerved back and forth, trying to put all that power to the ground. Then at every shiftpoint, the car would SSSSKKKRRRRRRRRTTTTT back and forth again. He ran in the 13-range, I forget where exactly. Pretty silly stuff.

It is also possible the guy (or girl) driving the WRX didnt know how to drive it very well. I used to have a '98 Eclipse GSX, with just a filter and it took me month to learn how to launch it just right, even with AWD. After that I used to leave my friends 14.8 sec integra in the dust (atleast until he hit VTEC in 3rd, and pulled right on by me ) Anyway congrats to the mystery maxi marauder!

A stock WRX and stock 5spd 4th gen are a good race from a roll, WRX having a little edge usually. From a stop its not even worth trying.

No but still the maxima wasnt design as a race car wrx was. Your custom Maxima is one tight car and hella fast too. Give you props racing with a wrx and winning
