VI Installed

Well, after days of putting it off, the Vacuum system is finally installed and the RPM switch functional. I took it out on the freeway to feel what it feels like with the system working. It feels super strong up top. The car breathes so much easier now and I can feel it just want to keep pulling and pulling. I have to keep an eye on the tach because it climbs so quick that I bounced off the rev limiter a couple of times. I'd defintely recommend this mod. Better grab them while they exist. RPM switch is currently set to 5000rpms but I'll probably be going to a dyno and and figure out what my optimum setting is. I may be getting rid of my PRCAI and adding the stock box and snorkel back and just leaving the upper PR pipe to see if that gives me some of my low end back. The CAI seems to be killing my low end, before and after the VI.

Yep, not a problem. Looking forward to it. Do you have the additional parts required for the install?

ummm.. no I need to work on that. I really dont even know what I need. I know RPM switch, vacuum canister, a sylonoid (what ever that is) and some hoses. Can you use the silicone hoses you know the colored ones? oh and I dont really know about the harlan RPM switch I heard some people have had problems with it consistantly working.

Yeah, I've heard the recent problems w/ the Harlan RPM switch. I think he is exchanging them w/ no problem. I all ready have mine. I may try it out to see if it works, so if it doesn't I'll hopefully have time to get a replacement before the VI arrives. I have the Harlan shift light and it works great. I'm not too sure about the hose sizes. I think the vacuum port off the new intake is slightly different than the original I'll check w/ speedtrip. He's somewhat local and has installed one of IanS' VIs on his car. The solenoid is an electrically activated vacuum switch. The solenoid gets tripped by the RPM switch and then routes the stored canister vacuum to the butterflys vacuum control causing them to open. Hope that makes some sense. PM me and lets swap info so we can continue these conversations outside of these threads.

Our cars are pretty old over there so we're limited to existing production. That's my .02 - I could be very wrong. I just wonder what will happen a few years down the road, like say if I needed to replace the vacuum actuator or something.

It's not that they will run out of them, it's that they have to order them themselves from the factory, and it takes 2-3 months. While my supplier is trustworthy, he doesn't want to take the risk of ordering 50 of them for me, and then i bail on him (understandable). So I can only get what's ordered, and he doesn't stock it regularly.

Unfortunately, in the rest of the world, business isn't as important or urgent as in the USA. It's customary when you send an E-Mail to someone in Asia or the ME, for instance, that they may take up to 3 weeks to answer. My supplier has been relatively good about this, and usually takes no more than a day or two.

I won't be doing these 3-month long GD's forever.

Anyway, all the parts needed are listed here, with Dynos and timeslips (my times sucked because of my 18's and speakerbox, bot the tiem difference is what's important) <I'm probably much faster now with the SC, we'll find out on the 31st>
