I was at midas today talking to a guy who works their. We were reading in a magazine where the raven exhaust system ($400) will most likely gives maximas around 20 hp. Even though they claim that a lot more than that.

It's supposed to replace the exhaust pipe which starts from your Catalyst converter.(The hole pipe starting from the Cat is going to get replaced, not the cat It's circumfrence allows more air to travel through and makes sure thier are no decreases in circumfrence through the curvatures of the pipe. I'm going to get one this summer. Tell me what ya think.

Also, this is one the rare performance boosters that will not invalidate your waranty

I think your going to get ripped off. Headers and an entirely new exhaust sytem "might" give you 20-25hp. Ain't no way a cat back is gonna come close.

I was not talking about the cat itself, I was talking about the exhaust system starting from the end of your cat to your muffler.

Then the hp claims are even more ridiculas. Save yourself some $$ and stay away from this exhaust. If you got some pics, post them for us to see.

Didn't someone from here dyno with everything after the cat removed and find little to no increase in HP. I thought the basic conclusion was any catback setup would be basically cosmetic and surely not increase performance.

Y2Kev, The cat will not be touched at all , it's illegall to remove it. If you don't believe the 25 hp increase, go to midas, and ask them about it. They say it will give you like 40 hp, but the salseman said you'd probably get 25 hp.

If you remove the variable flow muffler...

won't that kill low end torque with the lack of back pressure?

The exhaust system from your the back of the cat to your muffler (including it) is a cat-back exhaust. A cat-back exhaust system is the b-pipe plus the muffler.

No way you can gain 40 hp on a Maxima by changing those.

I think Midas have been dying for profit this xmas, if that exhaust system (WHATEVER, EVEN INCLUDING CAT) there is no way in this planet that will give you suh HP, IF it really does, i think that company should get "best enginering company of the century"""

Do NOT buy that $HIT!!!

My friend/mechanic owns a Midas here in NJ.
He installed one "RAVEN" exhaust on a customers car.
He said the quality was HORRENDOUS & it sounded like $HIT!
He also said that it did absolutely NOTHING for performance.

Don't waste your $$.

I threw a couple V-tek badges on my car and I'm dynoing 250 hp at the wheels now. I can't wait until I get my windshield banner and my new Weapon-R muffler bearings.

Blowing air... now that will give you 40 hp or more. If the air is being blown by a supercharger.

Let's take it easy on 2Maxed-out4u . . .

After all, the guy is a newbie and may not understand much about exhaust systems.

OK. Here's what you need to know, 2Maxed-out4u. Installing a prefabricated or custom catback exhaust system will give you no more than about a 5 horsepower increase, and most of that increase will occur above 5000 rpm. Anybody tells you any different is full of crap!

Now here's what I want you to do. Go to your Midas shop and tell them you want their 25 horsepower guarantee IN WRITING! Tell them that if they're willing to give you a guarantee, you'll go get your car dyno'd before they install your new exhaust system and you'll bring them the results. Tell them that once they've installed the new exhaust, you'll go back and have your car dyno'd again. Make Midas agree that if you DON'T achieve their touted 25 horsepower increase with the new exhaust system, they'll have to pay for the cost of both dyno runs, remove the catback system, refund your money AND put the stock exhaust system back on your vehicle for free.

That should take care of that!

Yes....GatorMax and I did this on his car. It made a whopping 3 hp gain while blowing out our ear drums in the process. Id stay away from all aftermarket exhausts performance wise. They just wont give much, if any gain. If its tone you want, go ahead. Just dont expect to make much more power.

I put them inside the door panels, above the speaker where there is a bulge in the panel, take off the panel and you'll see what I am talking about. You have to play with the correct placement.

All of these claims are bull-sh*t sales pitches that shops or manufaturers claim, just to sell a stupid modification. To me the only good performance Bolt-ons are, Filter 4-6HP, y-pipe 8-12 HP, Exhaust 6-8 Hp, Supercharger MUCHO Power.

I have them in the door also but I have them to the left of the speaker and I secured it. But I think I may have a slight rubbing problem though. Did you have this prob?

Which cross overs do you have the MiniComp ones or the MusiComp's. I have the Musicomp's, so the only way they would fit was to put them in the bulge where the window controls rest. I don['t get rubbing since they don't move.

Yeah I have the MusiComp's, but I don't know where you are talking about on the bulge. I have them to the left of the bulge and I secured it with a metal strip that I could screw into. I don't quite remember about the spacing so maybe after work today I'll go home and check it out. How did you secure it? Did you screw into the paneling, cuz that cross over is huge. Thanks for your help though!
