MEVI = Middle East Variable Intake
MEVI = Middle East Variable Intake
MEVI = Middle East?? Variable Intake. Its what I found in the FAQs.
Somehow I had that in my head but I thought it would have sounded stupid at first if I asked if it came from the Middle East.
Anyway... so why specify the "mid-east" version? Does it make more power than the Asian 4th-gen version or European 4th-gen or American 5th gen version?

that name MEVI first came from a member "RoAdBeAst"
and he was from the ME and started selling them from there since their manifolds were different from ours. Now we are able to get them straight from Japan so I guess they are called VI now

Hey Chris,
Can you beleive I still have not installed the stealthbox yet? Oh well, sometime.
Back to the topic.
It's only called Middle East because the 1st one was "discovered" in Bahrain. It turned out the guy who sold them to us, ROADBEAST, ripped a whole bunch of people off, myself included.
Right now, there are two guys who can get it for you, iansw and Mr cranman. They get their parts straight from the source, Japan, where all Maximas are born
They are both very reliable, too. If you're interested in getting the most out of your 95-99 Maxima, especially if you want to stay NA, then this mod is totally worth it
Here's one of the threads showing what it can do;

Hope this helps

Iansw is in Washington State (Seattle maybe?)
I believe John's contact is in Japan while Ian's is in the middle east somewhere.
The MEVI itself will run you around $500. Supplementary parts will run you an extra $75-$100 bucks depending on what you get. Don't forget installation costs if you don't do it yourself.
For further info, look here... http://www.vanillaice.com/webmasters/hype/mrc/mevi.htm
That's about it.
I have contacts in the Middle East, and yes, I live in Seattle, and am well known personally by many in the Northwest Community.
Cranman gets his from Japan, and can order one anytime. I get mine from the ME, which takes 3-4 months. And mine cost $30 more.
The good thing about me is I only need 1/2 up front, and the other 1/2 later.
So it's really what you need and what you want to do.
I do not directly compete with Cranman or anyone else in any way, and if you want to speak to him about buying one, then no problem.
But be aware I am setting up a 2nd GD in the Groupd Deals section right now. I only make $20 per unit, so I almost didn't do a 2nd GD, but people demanded it.
Here is my personal information on the subject, with Dyno and Timeslips. (And part numbers)

heck, I'll even quote it:
Besides the Variable Intake itself, to install this, you will also need to purchase:
Vacuum Canister - $12.00
Check Valve - $5.00
Harlan RPM Switch - $50.00
Radio Shack (or any brand) Switched Relay (I used a 30AMP Relay) -$5.00
Vacuum Solenoid (Read Below for price explanation) $2.50-$35.00 (Nissan Part #14956-35410 ($70 new))
Various Hoses. Take the manifold with you to the store to test fitting.- $10-15

I just thought I would chime in!!! =)
Yep everybody covered everything. Actually I would like to add something though. My parts cost about the same as Ian's because of the exchange rate. Currently your looking a $550 or so depending on the exchange rate of when you order and $620 if you want to include the cover which makes the engine bay look cleaner and allows you to hide the vacuum canister and stuff if you would like, which several people have done.
Which you can check out how it looks by going to this site which was listed before http://www.vanillaice.com/webmasters/hype/mrc/mevi.htm.
Just wanted to add that because Ian and mine are the same price basically...just the wait time. And like Ian said we aren't in competition it is just what fits your needs. I'm not sure if you Ian was able to get the cover for the VIM or MEVI or VIAS, but if you want to order one it is about 90-100 dollars alone and if you purchase a VI it is about 70 dollars...change in price because of shipping and weight and as you no the heavier some thing is the cheaper rate you normally get.
But if you have any questions feel free to email me and I'll be glad to respond or email Ian...and I'm sure he'll be glad to respond. But,if you need more info feel free to shoot one of us some mail.
