Anybody Successful in Fixing Wind Noises?

Other than the rear quarter window where there is a TSB fix out on, has anyone been successful in getting their dealer to reduce or fix the wind noise that seems to plague a lot of us especially at speed? If so, what did they do....or did you do to fix it?
There certainly seems to be a lot of wind roar or noise on my 2k3 max at speeds over 60mph. Took it to the dealer and they said it was normal and nothing they could do about it.
Any suggestions other than turning the stereo up? Thanks....

This is good, I would love to know how the fix is accomplished because that wind noise is seriously ****ing me off now.

Yeah, it sucks big time. I've had my 2002 for 2 months and whenever someone is in it they ask me if the windows are rolled all the way up. It's actually emabarrsing to tell them, oh yeah that's a defect. It's been around for what 3 years now? Why don't they just fix it in production?!

Has anyone fixed it themselves? The TSB sounds like they just jam some extra rubber in the crack, so it seems easy enough to do (even for me!)

The problem with many of the TSB's is that they are annoying, but not serious enough for me to drop the car at the dealer for who knows how long.

I had my 02 fixed by the rear quater corner TSB, but the wind noise still there. Service guy said as long as it's not air leak into the cabin, there is nothing they can do about it.
My wind deflector is in back order, I hope it will reduce the wind noise once it's on.

Was it free, whats TSB? Sorry, not something I'm familiar with, just got my Max a month ago. Can I just go in and have it done, would I know if it was already done?

I'm referring to wind noise other than from the rear quarter windows where there is a TSB and fix for. For the front(or rear main) windows, door frames and seals, is there another or different TSB out? If your dealer or you reduced or fixed the wind noise and roar from these areas, *how* did they or you do it? Thanks

Hey Nick I have the same concerns as you do. I'm taking it to the dealer next week tuesday so I'll let you know what they did. BTW I got the TSB for the rear windown done and I don't think it made that huge of a difference. I am a little concerned with the wind noise that comes from the Sunroof. So hopefully by fixing that it may reduce it. I was also considering adding additional weather stripping to the door frame to see if that works but I'm scared it might mess up the way water drains. So I'll get back to you and let you know.

Projected Nexus,
Check out the TSB thread, you will have detail explaination. If you don't have the issue, you don't have to worry about it.

nick778,
I can feel your pain. Although I had my TSB done, I still has the wind noise coming from somewhere. I hope the wind deflector will solve the problem once I get it on.

I wouldn't count on that wind deflector much of anything...took mine off and made no difference.

Cranking up the stereo works too. Unless it's the stock audio, then it will just make it worse.

I've been following this issue for quite some time now and was hoping to find a fix for the same noise you are talking about. I don't have the rear window noise as the TSB calls for fixing - I tried the masking tape test and it didn't make any difference. I've even tried taping around the front doors, around the windshield seal/trim, and around the sunroof. That didn't make a difference either and after cracking the window and sticking my fingers out along the trailing edge of the windshield, I'm convinced that they did a poor job of wind tunnel testing. This is the 4th new max I've bought since '94 and I've really enjoyed them all. The noise is really aggravating, especially on long trips, but I realize no car is perfect and considering how fun this one looks & drives, I've finally learned to put up with it. I too have noted that starting with the 5th gens, they really seemed to slip in the quality department. I don't know what the 6th gen is going to be like, but hopefully they will take note of some of these quality issues and I'm looking forward to test driving one.

I appreciate the information as I was about to go through the whole masking tape thing to see if I could isolate where the wind noise is coming from. Guess we'll just have to live with it. Thanks again.

What does the masking tape do?

Taping the windows and frames would prevent any wind from entering those areas and assist in isolating where there might be a wind leak or wind entering the cabin. Once isolating the entry point or points, you would have a better chance of fixing the wind intrusion and noise. The previous poter mentioned he did this with no benefical effect. So, wind leaks or instrusion would seem not to be the problem creating the wind noise. If so, the noise is more likely a design problem vs a leakage or wind instrusion problem.
I've read on the Acura TLS forum that these cars also have a wind noise or wind roar problem that is a result of the design and not any leakage. Acura went so far as to redesign the outside door mirrors a year ago in an attemp to quite down the wind roar. Didn't do much according to the posts I read.
You would think Nissan(or Acura) might augment their wind tunnel tests with some ole 'sit in the car at speed and listen for noise' testing.

I'm so sad to hear this. I thought for sure there had to be a solution. The noise is terrible at speeds above 60 and sounds like a convertible at speeds above 75. I'm still thinking about adding the triple seal like in my 91 max.

Wind noise in sunroof

I just recently noticed the wind noise in my 2k2 Max. It seemed to be coming from the sunroof. After the long hot summer, I've finally become interested in opening the sunroof. On recent trips, when I'd close the sunroof, with the side windows closed, I'd hear the sunroof "seal" and then unseal, almost as if it was moving too far in the other direction. If it was open, and I closed it, it sounded like it started opening in the "up" direction, just enough to break the seal.

Just the other day, I was experimenting with it while driving at highway speeds. Since the up/down function allows for slight movements one way or the other with a short press of the button, I tried to stop it at the "sounds like it's sealed" point, and I think I was successful. The last few days, I haven't touched it at all, and the cabin seems much quieter with little or no wind noise.

Now I need to get it to the dealer and explain it to them. If I have any success, I'll post it here.

I noticed that too. There was a great deal of noice coming from the back of the sunroof, which sounded like it was coming from the back window. I closed the cover on the sunroof, and the car is MUCH quieter now..

I actually got my sunroof readjusted which helped but there is still wind noise coming from the front pillars
