Can someone please tell me why I keep burning out my foglights?

I go through foglights at least once every 2 weeks, if not less. Why??? I always use the H3 but are they too cheap? Can someone please help me and recommend a better bulb for my beloved MAX.

mine last a little longer than two weeks, and its always the right side that blows. isnt this like a known problem? A friend of mine buys expensive piaa fog light bulbs and has not blown his yet. I might have to break down and put some higher cash out.

Same thing happens to me about once every two months. It's making me broke. Those ricey hyperwhites are costing me 7 bucks a pop. Just try to make sure you're not touching the glass part of the bulb and that no moisture is getting into the housing. Other than that, I think we are just prone to it.

It's always the right (passenger) side for me too.

I never touch the bulb, and I'm sure it doesn't get wet. But I still don't know why they burn out so often.

hey man... i'm pretty sure i know what your prob is... i went through it myself. are you putting 100w bulbs in your foglamps? is so, they will burn out in like 2 weeks. you need to use 55w bulbs... but other than that, just make sure you are getting a good connection..check your grounds... and there is this stuff you can buy from auto stores... its like a grease... but it helps electrical connections. but check your wattage first... i bet that is what your prob is... if not, sounds like a ground. as far a recommendations for bulbs... check out the philips or GE blue visions... had them for a while... look decent.

I want some nice looking fog light bulbs, hyperwhite or superwhite. But they can not be PIAA becasue those things suck and over priced. Anyone know of a nice quality bulb?

It could also be a problem with the foglight housing. I had a similar problem, and upon closer examination of the lamp, I found a small hairline crack from a rock that, when it rained, allowed moisture to seep in and burn the bulb out. Inspect around the housing(seals coming loose, or small cracks) if the problem persists after changing to a 55W bulb.

...how about using the fog lights only when there's fog??? - then they'll probably last few years.

LOL

in that case, let's all stop modding our cars and use em as basic family 4-door sedans.

I think you're talking about diometric or dioelectric grease or some **** like that. It's put in spark plug wires.

...could you explain to me how turning on lights you don't need (and annoying the sh*t out of other drivers when they're badly aimed) could be cosidered a mod?

You don't have fog lights do you? The difference between having them, and not having them, is like night and day. And how stupid do you have to be to aim your foglights HIGH ENOUGH to blind people? Give me a break . Cry more?

As a matter of fact, I do have (stock) fog lights and the difference is actually pretty minor on urban streets and highways. And fogs don't have to be aimed too high to cause glare - a difference of 2 or 3 degrees makes a huge difference - and being off to the left or right can cause glare too.

The real mods on your car don't get you enough attention so you have to have more light than everone else???

Oh, I just noticed (at least in your sig pic) that YOU don't have fog lights.

...and my question as to how turning on a pair of extra lights could be considered a "mod" goes unanswered....

Personally, I think the Fog lights add quite a bit of extra light to the ground at night and I like the looks of them on even during the day (rewired). I do have to say that I don't consider them Fog lights though, I consider them driving lights. I thought the purpose of a true 'Fog' light was to be of a color that is denser (ie yellow/amber), so that it cuts through the fog and provides better visibility than your average headlight would.

White (or Superwhite) like mine yeild no improvement in Foggy conditions, where as Billy Joe Bob's 4x4 with yellow fogs does. Sorry to go a little OT.

By the way, I had Kmax 55w H3 bulbs in my fogs for about 1 month before 1 blew (pass side), I now have PIAA Xtremes. If this blows I just take it back for a new one instead of wasting another $10 or so. We'll see how long these last.
