Fog light rewire folks, how many drive with lights on during the daytime?
Fog light rewire folks, how many drive with lights on during the daytime?
Hey, for you all folks out there that have done the fog light re-wire mod, I was curious how many of y'all drive with your fogs/parking lights on during the daytime when it's bright and sunny. It makes the car look nice, but I'm wondering if I'm looking like an idiot. It also automatically dims the clock display which sucks... anyone know a work around for that?

I turn them on for safety.
I always have my Fogs on during the day, mostly for safety reasons actually; kind of like daytime running lamps. So you can interperate my vote for "always on because they look phat" as always on so someone doesn't doze off and drive into me...
I don't like to use my HIDs during the day (I guess I'm trying to save them, even though they are supposed to long outlast typical halogens).
I don't think you look stupid with them on all day, at least if you do you know you're not alone!

Ummm, I have had two wrecks (totals) because some moron pulled out in front of me. Looked my way, my car didnt register with them and they came out anyway. I even had alot of close calls. My wife and I run with running lights (she often just leaves the headlights on) during the day. It has cut down on all that.
You only need to go from 50-0 in a half-second a few times to learn that lesson. I dont care what I look like, they are on. I've spent a few dollars in bulbs over the last few years and thats it. I considered DRL modules but with the max and pfs feature of controlling the lights, I just leave them ON.

That is strange, My rewired Fogs don't make my interior lights dim. They only dim when I switch on my headlights.

I do most of the time half for looks and half for safety like daytime running light as others have mentioned.
I have my clock set thru a switch so I can dim it independent of when the lights are on. Here's the write up for the 4th gen, I don't know if you guys are any different. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=46371

As you know, when you turn on your parking lights, which is of course necessary to turn on your fogs, your interior lights dim. You can adjust the intensity of the display with your dimmer control, however the clock is not controllable with teh dimmer switch. I think they have some circuit set up that when you turn on the parking lights, it probably sends 12V to a transistor in the clock which then reduces the intensity of the clock display.

I rewired my fogs to a 12v, I believe that it was the AC relay power, that is switched to the ACC on the ignition so I don't have to turn on the the parking lights to turn on the Fogs which is probably a bit easier than what you did
but then again "to each, their own"
I don't own a Max (I drive a 98 Mustang), but I ALWAYS have my headlights on whenever I drive, even though on the 98 Mustang it looks incredibly bad. Why? Safety. I've thought about installing genuine DRL's, but it's not worth the cost right now. Honestly, I think having my lights on has probably saved my butt more than a few times from idiot drivers who don't pay much attention. I'd rather have my car look stupid because the headlights are on than have it look stupid because it's been smashed into.
