4th vs 5th gen intake noise?

Ok, my neighbor has a 97-99 with a pop intake (custom w/ KnN filter, stock mid section) and it seems to be so much louder than mine, with a deeper rumbling sound. I was wondering if anyone thought 4th gens are louder than 5th. btw I have pop intake with a Franken mid section.

5th Gen sounds a little deeper, it is a bigger engine, and 4th gen is a little more hi pitched, smaller engine

I think 4th gen is a lot louder if you don't replace the resonator with midpipe.

in order of decending loudness
2002-up Intakes (really loud above 4k, abrupt change)
4th gen intakes (pretty loud all around, no abrupt change)
2k-2k1 (pretty loud above 5k, semi abrupt change)

With the VI, the 4th gen intake is a bit quieter above 5000rpms because the engine isn't struggling to breath and causing the loud intake resonance that occurs when the tach sweeps past 5200. With the VI, the sound is smooth and linear. I'd assume the 00-01 intake is the same way due to it's variable design. I have no explanation as to why the 2002 is louder other than it's marginally bigger and will suck in more air.
