I'm not sure what normal idle range is for our cars but 1000 seems a little high. My friend once had an old crown vic that idled at something like 2000rpm, you would take your foot off the brake and it would go flying, you could go 40 without touching the gas

did u do anything to your guages...you may just need to reallight the neadle to point to the right value. Lots of people screw up their speedometer if they don't make the proper location of the neadle when the switch to indiglo, this may be similar.
otherwise, if you adjusted your throttle cable, you may have it too tight so the throttle body is being left open.
do the idle go down when you're in gear and the engine is up to temp?
