Magna Flow or Apexi.. Compare them for me
Magna Flow or Apexi.. Compare them for me
Since some of you own these catbacks,
I was wondering which one was better?
Talk about pricing and the sound and the performence.
I need an exhaust system! oh~ and don't forget to name the model.
I'm looking for best performence *of course...*
Not too loud but deep toned sound *like Greddy*
Best Price.

from all the catback's ive heard (apexi ws, stillen, greddy sp, and greddy evo), the most non annoying one was the WS....and it happens to be the cheapest, and best looking as well....as far as power gains, not much to be gained from any kit, but they are all the same im assuming....id go with the WS personally

Get a good quality muffler and have a shop custom bend you a catback. This can usually be done for about $350 installed.

It's a reasonably priced, stainless muffler. Very good bang for the buck, and popular with the domestic crowd. It's got a nice, deep tone and is much easier on the ears than a flowmaster (especially for a non V-8 motor).
You could probably get a catback, aluminized pipe, crush-bent single-muffler setup for about $300 - $350 (depending on parts needed) installed. Only problem you may run into is that I don't think these come with tips attached, you'd have to weld the tip of your choice on if you wanted that look.
Hope this helps,

Okay if I went to a shop and pressure-bent a 2.5" catback wouldn't it have about the same flow as a 2.25" one? So if I had a pressure-bent 3" catback, it would give the same gains (if not more) than a 2.5"? Is there a significant price jump for a shop to do 3" pressure bent, because I know most DSMs and swapped Civics have them, so I can't imagine it is hard to come by.

There are two basic schools of thought on the piping diameter question. One school says that mandrel bends are superior because of the smoother air flow through the pipes. The turbulence created by the crush bend "ripples" disrupts the air flow and doesn't allow for maximum benefit.
The other school says that "bigger is better" and the larger diameter should more than make up for the turbulence caused by the crush bends. The problem with this is that going with too large of a diameter can actually cause some loss of low-end and torque.
Unless you are running forced induction or have money to burn, most people have found that going up a pipe size from 1/4 to 1/2 and having it crush-bent is the most economical alternative to a fully mandrel-bent exhaust.
As with anything, though, YMMV.
Hope this helps some,

The Apexi WS is a little cheaper and quieter than the Greddy. The Greddy is $500 at southwestautoworks.com, and I believe you could find the Apexi WS for $400 elsewhere. Though, either one will have a deep tone, I would've saved up for the Apexi WS but I couldn't pass up a deal for my Greddy SP for $350 shipped from another maxima owner.
Sexima, what year is your Maxima? If it is a 97-99 then the WS apexi is not a true bolt on for your car. There is no hole to bolt on your rear O2 sensor nad the exhaust tip is recessed in under the bumper. I know this for sure cause i have a WS Apexi on my 98 Max.
