Dead Alternator - Recall related

About a week ago, as I was driving, my detector started going nuts
- beeeeeep and full lights and error code showing.
Well, I had tapped into the back of the fuse block to wire it up
and I figured that it had some kind of short and was
disconnecting/connecting and repeatedly going through it's start-up routine - so I turned it off.
Then my radio started cutting in and out.
Then the ABS and Airbag dash lights come on.
Then the engine stutters.
3 minutes later the car just dies - right at a T-intersection.
I coasted over as much as possible.
And it was due in for service in 5 days...
So I had it towed (flatbed) to my dealer.
Turns out it was a faulty alternator causing all the problems.
And this is the problem that the recall was about.
So the dealer replaced the alternator for free (damnright!)
and they're submitting the tow charge to HQ.
They better cover that too.
3 days later I get the recall notice in the mail.
Yeah, thanks soo much - I know.
So, allayall that's got the recall notice,
I suggest you get it taken care of right away.

Yeah! Mine just went out Saturday. The brake light and battery light both came on and the alternator starting making some whinning noise. Had my mechanic check it and was told that the alternator was no longer charging the battery. Made appointment with dealership to take it in tomorrow. Haven't received a letter yet concerning the recall. I am hoping the current charge in my battery will get me to the dealership.

do a search on this; there is information about which VIN's are affected.
