Coming home from college, a stupid A$$ Intrepid was tailgating me, so I did the old, "slow down, then gun it when he tries to pass you technique." So I do this, then the Intrepid pulls up next to me in the right lane and guns it...so I'm like "Hells No!! This Dodge ain't gonna beat me!!"...I drop the pedal, the car surges into 3RD gear and FLIES to 110MPH!! It happened so fast, I didn't get a chance to look at the Tach or feel the gear change back to 4th...I think I was still in 3rd gear at 110!! The car wasn't shaking or anything, it just held its track and was still climbing easily. Then the POS Intrepid finally catches up...and guess what?? IT'S A 70 YEAR OLD GREY HAIRED WOMAN!! I couldn't believe it!! Then I slowed down, cause it's pretty stupid to hold that speed on a highway...I have a new found respect for the elderly now!!

Sound ssimilar to my run in with a grandpa in a Crown Victoria. I passed him on the right since he wouldn't pull over(b/c we was going the exact speed limit in the left lane and there was nobody else there). He was at 65 I was going about 80 or so. ANd he guns it to pass me-so I keep er in 5th (b/c its only a crown vi) and pull up to about 110 or so and he is now going 90-95 . I slow down b/c my wife yells at me and let him pass (by now he's going bout 100 and then has to jam on his brakes for two turcks going side by side on the hwy. As the truck pulls back into the rt lane I pulled in front of him just to **** him off...

Yeah, I like those trips down 95 when Im cruising at 80 and a tinted out boat goes flying by me with Florida plates. Those old people are sure in a hurry all the time. Do they think the Highway Route Number is the Speed Limit number??

Dont get me started on that one though!!! barely can see over the steering wheel, driving 20 mph in 45 with right turn signal on for miles and when someone hits the brakes a mile in front of them they hit theirs too to slow down to 15 or so. Then you wanna yell at them but it doesnt matter cause they cant hear your horn or see you yelling at them. I just write down their plate and report em so they dont kill someone else or themselves.

I really hate it when people do that..

You know..

When you are driving (even worse, in the fast lane) and the person in front of you is going wayyyyyy too slow.. So you try to pass them, and guess what? they won't let you!

So when you finally do pass them they feel the need to tailgate you forever...

God that is so annoying..

Like I want to be forced to drive 45mph on a road that everybody drives 65-75mph on.. Why can't they just respect the fact that I want to drive faster and LET me freakin pass them with out pulling out a bible and telling me I'm gonna go to hell.

No offense though

Oh.. What is worse.. is when you ARE driving fast.. and the person behind you decides to pass you and THEN SLOW DOWN.. Oh my god that kills me.. I just want to run them off the road.. Or even worse.. They pass you and then slow down 1 second later to turn!!

Oh oh oh and I hate people who STOP and slowly pull into a turn lane..half a mile before they get to their turn.. as if they can't pull into the turn lane and THEN slow down.. bastards..

Peel

I wasn't going slow in the fast lane...I was going 80 in a 65, and she was tailgating me...she deserved to get the old "slow then gun" technique...she was four feet off of my bumper at 80 MPH.

This is especially true in europe on the autobahn where speed ranges from 75 to 150+. You must stay to the right unless you are passing another vehicle. Be careful when you pull out though, someone may be coming in at 150 or 160 behind you.
Of course the roads here in the states aren't the autobahn in Germany, but the rules should still apply.

I agree.

I went to europe for vacation a year or two ago..

They were sooooo much better at staying out of the fast lane there..

On a 3 lane road all of the big trucks and really slow drivers would stay in the far "slow lane" and only use the middle lane when they need to pass..

The middle lane had most of the drivers and the fast lane only got used to pass or to drive really fast.. and if you are in the fast lane and there is a person ahead of you.. they will usually get over and let you by if you are going faster..

I loved it.... And now I hate driving in the states even more!!!

Yup...I agree with Peelboy too....
Also...in some places in europe, it's illegal to pass on the right...period.
Also...notice how trucks and some cars in europe will use their blinkers to let you know on a two lane road if there is oncoming traffic or not. This can be helpful when you need to pull out to pass a big rig.
Also...on the autobahn, the road signs and lane markers are shown wat in advance to give you time to make your exit or to prepare for a change on the highway....this is especially useful when traveling at a high rate of speed.
Also...the autobahn's are closed off so as not to allow animals and other objects to get in the way....very safe at 150.

You guys are 100% right when it comes to Europe vs usa drivers. Most people in the usa think it's their god given right to sit in the left lane doing 65mph. I don't know how many ***** flicked me off as I had to pass them on the RIGHT(which is dangerous BTW). If it's a little damp, forget it it's right back into the left lane after I pass them so they can eat some of my spray!

I admit recently more drivers have been accomodating. Though a little late. Hey if some blok wants to run interference for me up the highway at 85mph, who am I to stop them?? I get the hell out of the way, why can everyone else??

Don't you hate it when you're trying to be consistent at driving a high rate of speed and the car your coming up on waits to the last second to switch over to the right lane. Either you've already started to switch yourself, or you have to slow down and speed up.....grrrrrr...ehehheh/////oh well, what do you expect, they will give anybody a lisence here in the states.

If people obeyed the rules as they should be, there would be fewer wrecks and deaths on our roads.

VERY TRUE. Too many people in this country dont understand the concept of right lane slow left lane fast. And all my friends wonder why i carry around a jars of pennies and nails Cause the ones who drive with no kind of regard for the rules (it actually says to stay to the right if you are driving slower than the rest of traffic) of the road are also the ones who are quick to tailgate you and flip you off when you are the one who isnt driving with your head up your ***. Oh man, im not looking forward to my drive home this afternoon!!

I drive up to school and back about 6-8 times a year on the Florida Turnpike, which is 2 lanes on each side running dead straight at 70mph speed limit through the state. This is also the road that everyone going to/from Orlando (Disney, etc) uses. I see more people doing 65 in the fast lane (limit is 70, most go 80) than in the slow lane! That's the most aggravating thing I've ever seen. Also, to stick with the thread's topic a bit, some of the fastest drivers on the road are over 70. These new Caddys with the big engines sure can move, and I don't think many of them know just how fast they're going.

ah, gotta love those old people...

Last week I was cruising at at like 15-20 mph, and 2 of my friends in a Camry were following me, I was just looking for parking, then I could leave my car and go in theirs... I get to a stop sign, there is a early 90s Accord standing there, I wait a little bit, there is not 1 F-CKING car there and the Accord is not moving, this is a 1 way street, with a T-shape intersection, I came around it carefully, stopped, looked and went, my friend did the same, then out of nowhere BLAM! that ****ing Accord smacks his side mirror against my driver side mirror, mother****er came so damn close to my car... I am like WTF! this is a 1 way street, cars parked on both sides, and I am going down the middle of the street..... The Accord is still moving really slowly and glued to the left side of the narrow street, i line up to it on the right, look over and see an old geezer about 80 or so, so I lower my window, waving my hands like What the hell was that?!?! the fossil just keeps going and acts like he doesn't see me, or maybe he really doesn't see me. I start honking my horn like a maniac and screaming ****. then he stops and looks over with a smile. I am like open your window! Grandpa just raises his hand waving at me, like "I'm sorry" and smiles too. I get out the car and check my mirror, its just folded forwards, i fold it back to place. This dinosaur was creeping at a low speed without even looking, down a 1 lane 1 way street between parked cars and moving cars! cant believe how bad this pissed me off. I looked back and saw my friends laughing their asses off. I just went on my merry way and let grandpa go.

There should be some sort of reflex test given to drivers over 65.

one thing that people have to understand here is that lets say u are driving 100mph in the left lane if there is someone behind u who wants to go faster u get in the right and let him pass... then get back in left if u like and keep going... dont think that if the limit is 65 and u doing 100 that its sufficient.. obviously he wants to go FASTER so let him GO!! thats the way it is all around the world.. but here we just gotta learn... eventually though i think people will catch on... but i really do hate people just sitting in the left lane and not budging... i usually sit right on there rear and put my high beams on... this usually gets there attention.. i think im gonna put strobes or a couple sets of super bright lights that aim right at eyes that i will turn on during those desperate times

I've been there before, when i first started to drive a while back. I had a 91 Chevy Corsica ( I know , I know)
Well I was at a light and a granny pulls up to me in a 90 Ford Probe Gt (turbo) well here Im thinking what the hell does she need turbo for. I found out when the light changed. She floored it off the light, smoke off the tires and everything. I just froze in amazement

Well the law here in America is to give the right-away to a car bearing down on you in the left Lane. But the law just isnt enforced by the Police/Troopers. Many States are posting signs on the interstates such as: "Slower traffic keep right".
It irritates me just as much as the rest of you guys, but I dont think the solution is to continuously high-beam and tailgate. Be a little more patient and go around them when you can. I dont want to hear of one of you guys or gals getting into an accident or an altercation with a pyscho out their on the roads. People are crazy. It's just not worth it. Be safe and have a happy Holiday season.

Don't worry about gLok Empz.. He is a light weight.

I tend to throw hammers, crow bars, and little kids out my window at other cars. For the fun of it.
