Run-in with 2 Porsche Cayennes

Driving my mom's 4th Gen this evening on the way home when I saw 2 suspicious SUV looking things ahead. At first I thought they were Audi Allroads but it was sitting way too high. So anyways, I finally caught up to them...Black paint, the darkest tint possible, no badges whatsover. So I decided to go in front of one of them when I saw the Porsche HIDs. Damn! My lucky day! Not 1 but 2 Cayennes (Georgia plates). Anyways, to make a long story short, I came up next to one of them and give them a thumbs up. The driver rolled down his windows and said "let's go!". I'm like sure why not. Each of us took a lane (I was in the middle) and slowed down to 65mph. We signalled on the count to 3 and gunned it. Man! I didn't have a chance at all. Went up as high and 100MPH and in no time I was ever closing in. I signalled and they slowed down. I gave them another thumbs up and we went our separate ways. That totally made my day!

Those things will give the X5 and ML55 a run for its money. 450HP V-8 for the Turbo!!! Then again the standard is 340HP on its own. Although the design is a little questionable to me, engine-wise, it's totally Porsche!

I don't know what the 1/4 time is but according to MotorTrend, 0-60 is suppose to be 5 seconds flat!

They will give the X5 4.6i more than a run for its money, they will rip it apart and leave its 20" stock rims laying on the side of the highway. The cayanne will absolutely annihilate the x5 4.6i and ML55.

Hey...do you live around L.A.? I was driving next to a group of 3 of them on the 405 a couple of weeks ago. They all had Georgia plates, too.

Yeah, I was going northbound on the 405 going home to the valley. I went 118W, they went 118E. Too bad I had my camera in my C70. It was too dark anyways.

GREAT it's a fast porsche.
WAIT!
It's a FARKING SUV!

Please separate Porsche from Audi and VW again? I really really hate what they are doing to Porsche.

That's the controvesial thing about the Cayenne...

I know what you mean, Lime. Some people felt that if Porsche absolutely had to have an SUV, that it didn't need to have the 'corporate face.' They thought that it could have looked better it it weren't styled after the 911 and Boxster.
The really sad thing is, the Cayenne is just a rebadged, reengined VW Tuareg(yes, it's really spelled like that ). It would have been better if Audi had an SUV instead. The A6 Allroad just won't cut it for some people, and they won't feel like shelling out the extra cash for a Porsche.

Porsche North America is based in Atlanta. Hence the GA plates.

So, Ben, can you snag me one for free?

Stupid jerky VW/Audi. And don't get started on that "porsche was stolen from VW" BS. They broke off LONG AGO, and should have remained that way!

Damn, that thing is fugly. The 996 front end looks 110% WRONG on an SUV. It may haul butt, but it looks like hairy azz.

Perhaps the name is derived from the use of cayenne pepper in defensive pepper sprays to blind people. This truck certainly has that affect on me anyway.

I agree, it's ugly!

Until this one, I like how all of the Porsches look.

I hate the Porsche Cayenne! When you tell people you drive a Porsche they know it's a high end sports car, now it could very well be a truck. Porsche should stick to what they do best, which is sports cars. What's next, it Jeep going to start building sports cars? And yes, not only is it fugly, it takes some of the prestige away from the 996 line up.

No kidding. Just what the public needs. A vehicle with over 400HP with a high center of gravity. Good idea there...

it's fast and all but that thing is ****ing ugly

Speed is not the 1st thing I'd be looking for in an SUV.

4.6 X5 would get my money..

More bad news...

The November Car and Driver with the Viper SRT-10 on the cover said that Porsche might develop 2 and 4-door pickup versions of the Cayenne. It's bad enough that the Cayenne uses only 20% Porsche parts, according to C&D.

One good thing I read in car and driver was that Porsche is developing an "entry-level" sports cars to battle the BMW 1 series. it's going to be like a 4 door(civic, focus sized) with a flat-six and rwd. Prices are estimated to be aroung $30,000....Daddy likes.
