Need Your Opinions
Need Your Opinions
Ok, I'm thinking about selling my max. I found a good deal on a '97 GTP. I don't have enough money for it right now and I'm in college. I don't have any credit so I'd need a co-signer for the loan. I planned on buying a house not long after college and could use the credit. So, what do you guys think? My car is 10 years old and the GTP has a 25,000 mile warranty on it. Please, voice your opinions here.
Thanx!

Re: Need Your Opinions
it will be a really really sad day for you if you sell your max and the person you sell it to smokes you while you're in your gtp. you're in college...chill a lil and dont jump into making payments and crap before you even start making some major cash. Better to own a car than to owe one.

I know I could, but I want to get a car that is faster. Although I love Maximas, I also like the GTPs. Plus, it's only $712 per six months for full coverage, just $14 more than what I'm paying.

Well, the thing is that I want to earn credit, and I know that I can pay off a loan. I want to buy a house after soon after college so the credit from that loan will help me out.

I agree in the sense that you could just keep the great car you have now, and save for a better car. That money in a few years, when you're ready to buy a house also, could come in handy. Besides, how much better is the GTP gonna be, comfort-wise (which it should be, cuz you don't race the car if you're gonna want it to last you). If the Max is a more comfortable ride, I say stick with that. It's better quality inside and out.
My two cents: keep the max, get a credit card with a low limit and pay off all balances right away, and save for a new car/house.

I know what you're saying, and as an ex financial advisor, I can tell you that you have the right idea. Building your credit is a smart thing to do, but you could do it through judicious use of a credit card as well. The loan is just a fixed cost, so you have to pay it. The credit card, if paid off promptly, is not a cost you have to incur each month, so easier to afford, if you don't spend like crazy.
