Favorite thing about 1st and 2nd gen?????

Whats your favorite thing about the 1st or 2nd generation max?? Mine would probably be the various amount of power options, but more specifically the stock equalizer with the lights on it. I thought that was an awsome option to have, especially for an 87. Whats your favorite thing?

First of all, they are much cheaper than a 1989+ Maxima. The reason I got a 1st gen instead of 2nd is because of how easy it is to work on the straight six. Plus I've had a few Z's, so I already know how to tear the engine apart so maintaining the engine is nothing new to me.

I do prefer the body style of the 2nd Generation Maxima.

The 2nd gen is my fave body style, followed by the 3rd gen...i'd like to get a 92+ SE 5-sp someday...

However, I'd have to say my fave thing about the car is the fact that it's one of the sportiest wagon made from that vintage.

...my favorite thing?

Years ago, when I was more like your age, Brendan , I had a 67 Chevy with a straight six and a stick. I've liked that combination ever since. I also like the independent rear on the Max. It's nice having a 4 door race car that I can fit the wife and both kids in. I'd have to say my favorite thing is that it's a 5 speed so the wife won't drive it.

Your lucky with the 5-sp, no wife part. I'd love a 5sp in my wagon, but if I had one, I'd need a crow bar to drag my wife from it. I made the mistake of teaching her to drive stick a few years ago, and that's all she wants now...

It's not that she can't drive stick, she just doesn't like to think about things like that when she's driving

Best feature of 81-84 Maxima's and Datsun 810's...

Rear Wheel Drive and fully independent rear suspension.
If only, it had LSD and anti-lock brakes.

Great Handling sports sedan!!!!

Worst feature -- missing turbo from factory!!!

In 80" I had a 73" 610, baby 4 cyl. to the Z's 6 cyl.. What nuts that car had. I truely liked the voice and the mileage computer on my 85". I got very stupid and got it vertical. Now have a 92" GLX, it's nice but I like that 2nd Gen Body.

All the Best

How about what I don't like about our 2nd gen? Almost every luxury/convenience factor imaginable went into the late model 2nd gens. Automated voice to remind you to fill up the gas, the headlights are still on, scratch your ***. Automatic seatbelts. A plethora of lights, gauges and sensors.

But Nissan missed out on the most important feature I believe is essential to every day living: cupholders. Cmon, they have ashtrays!!! I don't smoke, but I'd much rather have cupholders than ashtrays.

yes I don't have the cupholder either but I think the 91+ Sentras had them as standard equipment...I mean we're driving vehicles that have every power feature imaginable: power seats, windows, locks, sunroof, mirrors, and I find it amazing and humorous that they left out something so simple. Especially if it's like mine, a 5-speed. Ever try drinking anything and driving stick at the same time?

Anyway I'd say that the generation 1/2 Maximas and the older 810s have the advantage of room...compared to the newer models. They're much roomier. Plus Nissan's other models back then had considerably smaller engines, the Sentra and the Pulsar had 1.6s I think, not sure what the Stanzas had. And they made this beast with a 3.0. Yeah, they're quick little things. I'm looking for parts for mine in junkyards but no junnkyards have any maximas like mine...that's cos they're all still on the road!

What I like about 1/2 gens. The L24, and the VG30E. My dad has a volvo with a 2.9 liter straight six, that puts out 181hp, and yet my 160hp maxima can still do circles around it. And in the second gen, I like the styling, especially the 85-86 models with the air dam and spoiler. It had a nice aggressive look to it.

I would have to say my favorite thing about my 86 maxima was the voice that reminded you that the door was open. Sometimes if I had a girls in the car I would intentionally leave my door open and pull off just so the car would talk. I also liked the ajustable suspension.

Nice thing about a 1st and 2nd gen is you can buy a VERY clean one for less than $2500.
