I just got back from Chicago and noticed that my car is bouncing quite a bit. I also noticed that it shakes a bit too and it never did that. Strange since I JUST had it balanced and it was fine; could the shocks add to the shaking?

Anyway, which are better? KYB G2's or the Tokicos? I am only keeping the car for another 8 months and then it's gone. Please advise of the best price and where thats at so I can get these this week!

Thanks,
SHUMAX

BTW..I am running H&R on factory struts/shocks for 35k now!

If you're getting rid of it soon, just get some cheapo Autozone struts. Pretty sure KYB's are better then Tokico's, but the Koni adjustables are the best for now.

I'm pretty sure that the KYBs are stock replacements, so the Tokico HPs are better because they have a little bit higher damping rate. But I wouldn't put any more money than I absolutely had to into the car if I were selling the car in less than a year.

Right now the only KYBs out there are OEM replacements... AGXs are supposed to out soon though.

The Tokicos are definitely better performance struts, but if you're selling in 8 months, and your car isn't lowered, get the KYB'S or some other cheaper struts.

KYB GR2's are equivalent, at least, the stock SE struts. I think that for as long as you are keeping the car, they KYB's would be the best (cheapest) bet.
Even if the struts are bad, the car shouldn't shake at speed. Just because you had the wheels balanced, doesn't mean they were balanced right.

I think it's funny that people who've never riden in or seen KYB GR2s are quick to point out that they aren't performance struts. I've compared the housings of the GR2s to the Toks and the GR2s are much more solid, thicker, and heavier. The Toks look nearly like the stock SE struts. I'd have to say the KYBs are a little firmer than the Toks (I've got the rear KYBs). With all the problems and failures the Toks have, it's a wonder to me that people still buy them for the Maxima.

Funny...

When I needed new fron struts for my 90 GXE, I searched around on a lot of message boards. One that stuck in my head was on the Audi board. It said, "My wife has a 94 Maxima and it handled like a POS, then I put in KYB's and it was pretty good." I also saw almost no mention of them going bad.
So, that's what I put in. The car handles better than when it was new. I can't say how they compare to new OEM SE struts, because I never drove a car with them, but they do work well. I personally think that the only good choice for Maxima owners is between Koni's and KYB's. Too bad the AGX KYB's aren't available, or Bilsteins.
