96 motor in a 1998

this maybe a stupid question but will a 1996 max motor fit in a 1998?
what all would have to be changed to make this work or will it just go in?
the reason i ask is because i know that the 95/96's have differnt ecu's, emissions(meaning two O2 sensors instead of three), etc.... correct me if i am wrong on anything

it should fit no problem - i dont think the sensors have anything to do with the motor, thats all with the ECU

So say if you have a 98 motor in a 98 and you want to change the ecu. Can you put a 96 ecu on a 98 motor? Wouldn't this make the max just a little different?

i would imagine that as long as it is a COMPLETE swap everything should be fine....using 95/96 sensors wih 97/99 motor/ECU and vice versa will lead to some issues

so i could put a 96 motor in and put an Aftermarket 95/96 ecu and it would work like that? I dont know if the ecu would match up to all of the other electrical components on the car. If there are any difference between years.
anyone know this answer?

No all 95s have only 2 o2 sensors. It depends when are car was made if it is OBDI or OBDII. OBDII cars have 3 o2 sensors. I think that 95 are OBDII if they are made after Jan 95.

Ask Mardigrasmax. As far as I know, the only additional O2 sensors that the 95-96 has over the 97-99 is the cat and other similar O2 sensors. He put a 96 motor in his 98, so he would be of more help to you Josh......

BTW, remember, almost EVERY 4th Gen is OBDII...
