anyone do 97-98 alternator recall yet?

I was on a business trip and came home to find the recall notice in my mail. Just wondering if anyone did it, because it's curious that it states the dealer will determine if it needs to be performed. The worst case scenario would be that the dealer doesn't replace yet bills nissan for the parts and labor. Happened to pops once, but he's kinda crazy, he marked his car with a grease pencil "old part" so the dealer couldn't come up with an explanation for why it said that!

I did it a month or so ago. I called the dealership gave them my VIN and they double checked (although I don't know why) it and asked me to bring my max in. I took it in and they replaced the alternator no questions asked and I even had a UDP installed. Well that's not true, the mechanic was inquistive when he saw the variable intake manifold on my car!

I got mine done, which was nice cause I had belts that needed fixing due to noise. I had the UDP as well and they replaced it no problem. Fixed the belts too. Came by after hours and picked it up

I got a letter. Went to the dealership on the way too work, to ask them if my car would fit on there lift. They told me to take my side skirts off, so I just scheduled to come in the next week. I dropped the car off in the morning and they just replaced free of charge

I got a notice in the mail and I had it done a couple of weeks ago. I had it replaced ~36k(about 22k ago) before the recall. The Nissan tech that worked on my car said one of the tensioner bolts was not put back in when it was replaced the first time(I had the feeling something was wrong with a belt because it would squeal sometimes). I have a '97 SE BTW

I just bought my 97 2 months ago. Am I included in the recall? What should I do?
Also, what's the deal w/the Alt? Will it catch on fire?

take it to the dealer and have them look your VIN number up and see if the # falls under the numbers that are affected by the recall, if it is then you get a free alternator

Oh, what was wrong with them is that one of the 3 diodes are defective. my diode completely burned up and melted the plastic housing around it and the alternator started to whine really loud all the time

My mom had her I-30 covered under this recall, so yes.
