Wassup with my V1?

I hardwired my V1 radar detector about 6th months ago, tapping into the back of the fuse block.
About 3 months ago my altenator died (part of the recalls for 97s). Just before the car stopped working completely, the V1 went nuts, making noises and flashing the 3 horiz. LEDs (ERROR).
Now it does this every once in a while with nothing predictable to the event - meaning it doesn't happen EVERY time I drive by location X or EVERY time I use the left turn signal etc. Just a random event.
Now I am pretty sure I did a good job with the hardwire, but the only thing I can think of that might be causing this is a loose connection.

Does anybody have any ideas on this?

Thanks

3 horizontal leds, lotsa noise and blinky stuff = LASER!!! You're beeing tagged dood. Your V1 is fine. It's doing it's job.

Laser?
Dunno about that...

98 percent of my driving is local
and I'm pretty sure the coppers around here just have "regular" radar, not laser.
I don't even think they have instant-on.

And when I drive, well, let's just say I take the speed limits signs as suggestions.
So if it really was laser, then I would have had a number of conversations with Mr. Officer.

I know you can pick up stray MW signals from garage door openers and security systems, but I've not heard of stray Laser signals.

When I lived in NYC kids would be playing with Laser pointers,
treying to make you think a gun was pointed at you. But I don't think that people are driving around zapping laser pointers at cars with detectors.

That's why I was thinking it had something to do with my cars electrical system.

Page 22 of my bro's V1 manual (not sure about my manual cuz I have the newest V1 and his is 1yo) describes a V1 tag similar to your "symptoms". If you don't think you're getting tagged, then it's a false alarm. Some false alarms I've discovered:

red led brakelights of newer 2002-03 gm cars
some red billboards
some supermarkets
some red led stoplights

Thanks ThurzNite.
That makes some sense.
I'll see what's around the next time it goes off.
