what'd i do wrong?

well went to the track on sunday, and well i had some under par runs imo....it was my first time ever to the track and well, you know, the jitters, etc....all the other max's all ran slower than me (4th gen wise), except a 5spd which ended up with a 15.4....well here is my best time slip..

R/T - .740
60' - 2.462
330 - 6.713
1/8 - 10.156
MPH - 72.65

1/4 - 15.669
MPH - 88.50

The following time was with:

-Custom Hybrid Intake
-Warpspeed Mandrel Bent Y-Pipe
-Stock crappy Continental rubbers
-Front tire pressure to about 26-27 PSI
-Disconnected shift sensor in engine bay
-Torque braked to about 1600, and then tried to ease into it, but i think i spinned it too much.

well any ideas....track tempturate was pretty cold, id say mid to high 30's.

Yeah your 60' wasn't too hot

If you could have gotten that down to a solid 2.3xx time you would have been running better than 15.5 and right with that 5spd.

my 2nd run, which ended up being my slowest, found the best 60' of all my runs...it was an even 2.4...i ran a 15.7x tho

R/T - .671
60' - 2.40
330 - 6.715
1/8 - 10.205
MPH - 71.78

1/4 - 15.764
MPH - 87.78

this run was the same as 2nd, except with the shift control sensor in tact.

1st run was

R/T - .926
60' - 2.403
330 - 6.731
1/8 - 10.226
MPH - 71.12

1/4 - 15.759
MPH - 88.xx

this was with spare, jack, jack stands (~10 lbs), etc. still in the car.

edit: im auto btw

I agree with Steve. Lower you 60' and you should be able to hit 15.5s

15.6 isn't that bad actually, it's about right for an auto with intake and ypipe. Judging by your 60' I can tell you could do better than a 15.6, lower the 60' and you should do better. My best ever NA run was a 15.4, but I had a few more mods than you. I had ypipe, cai, rt cat, catback exhaust, and the vb mod at the time. That's not that good considering my mods, I should hit low 15s with those mods.

I was thinking with better tires i could hit 15.5's or slightly slower....im on the stock continental with barely any tread left....would that hurt me substantialy?

I am the 5spd with the 15.4, I ran what I wanted to run for my first time at the track. However, after reading other peoples runs I should have gottel into high 14s to low 15s. I had less then 1/8 fuel in the tank, front tire pressure was 23 hot, with 29 hot in the back. Had the floor mats, spare and jack in the car. I redlined first and second gears and finished the 1/4 mile at top of third. My tires are also almost gone. However I would dump the clutch around 1600 rpm with little wheel spin. as results:

R/T 0.571
60 2.387
330 6.584
1/8 10.010
mph 72.54
1000 ----
1/4 15.449
mph 90.98

Next time at the track, I will redline first, go upto 6300 in 2nd, and 6000 in third and then shift to 4th. DO you guys have any advise what else I can do to improve my times?

Your mph is a little low. Might be because you stayed in 3rd? The shift points you listed should help. But the 1/4 for a maxima is won or lost in the first 60ft. Get that down to low 2.2's and you should have your low 15's or high 14's with nice crisp shifts. Also, take your spare and jack out. good luck

I was dumping my clutch at 1600rpm with little spin maybe thats why my 60 is high, ill try to launch at 2200 rpm with feathering the clutch.

By how much do you think my car was slowed down by me changing first two gears at redline and finishing the 1/4 mile at the top of third gear, and not switching (1-2 @ redline, 2-3 @ 6200, 3-4 @6000)?

what tire pressure were you running at? 20 to 23 will help you lower those 60 ft times

Yep, but I had crappy tires. I will order Dunlop A2's which should help with the 60' times and I know the shift points now.
