OK, decided on wheels, what do ya'll think?

I think I'm getting the MOMO GT2 Tuning wheels in 17 by 8 in the Anthracite to go on my grey lustre 2k2 max
thanks

BTW I'm set on getting 17" and weight is not a factor but they weigh 26 lbs.

I think they look good, but I would try and go 18" before 17" momo. I see that they dont have it, but how much is it going to cost for the 17"s?

You're going to hear us tell you this relentlessly. 17"s are a mistake.

I don't think there's a point in swapping out the stock 17's (they look good) for a diff pair of 17s. Go to 18s if you're going to buy aftermarket.

Some people just don't like the potentially ghetto look of 18's+.

That's true--everyone has their own opinion/taste. Me, I don't think 18s look ghetto whatsoever. It all depends on what the rim looks like--you can have a 17 that looks ghetto, or an 18, or even 19 that looks classy. I think 18s are the perfect size for a Maxima, and any bigger would just be too much IMHO.

The MOMO GT2s are nice rims though, get whichever size you like best. Afterall, it's YOUR car and you have to live with it (cliche, I know...)

MOMO makes good quality rims, but they are just too expensive. And I'd rather get a cheaper 18" wheeler than a 17" MOMO. Here's my ten cents, my two cents is free.

If you keep the car a while the difference in cost between quality 17" vs 18" tires can be substantial. Swapping out the narrow (however nice-looking) stockers for wheels that give a much wider selection of tires makes sense.

Out of curiosity, what kind of tires are you running on the 18s?

The Max with 18 X8 Konig Tantrums wrapped in Kumho Supra 712 235/40/ZR18 tires. I think the next mod will be springs as I'm not too happy with te wheel gap. I was very impressed with the ride quality of the 18s though

That is your quote from cardomain. I see that you are running the 235/40. This is what I started out with and I ended up switching to the 245/40. This made all the difference. Before it was arougher ride, and when I went to the bigger size, the ride did get much better.

Also, not to offend anyone, but Kuhmos are terrible tires. They are rough, loud, and wear out quickly. I think that those might be the problem.

I looked at your homepage and on page 3 it shows the 18's and you said that you are satisified with the ride quality, now you say you are not? Which is it

Those rims look nice, but go with 18's or 19's

I couldn't really tell the difference at first, but then I got a 2k2 Altima for a rent car and noticed the smoother ride. I knew it was a little bumpier when I first got them but now that bumpiness (jarring feeling) is getting kinda old.

Thanks for the help and tips, my old wheels and tires will be on sale soon

BTW I'm getting the Pilot Sport A/S this time

I don't get why people call 18's getto.. If your refering to a certain design then I can relate. But 18's in the right design compliment the Max well.. Even 19's and 20's... Just look at Kloogy's car. I think the main reasons why people buy aftermarket wheels are for performance, style, and getting rid of the wheel gap.. 18's do that perfectly.. If you already have 17's why buy another set?? Why not just by better tires?? I just don't understand why people keep talking bad about getting wheels that are 18 or bigger....

It all depends on what you are looking for...looks or performance. The smaller the wheel the lighter it will be as well as the tire this is all good for performance, 1/4mile or road course. Bigger wheels just look nice.

The only reason race teams go to bigger wheels is to fit over their big brakes otherwise they use smaller wheels. The rafce winning CompTech Integra uses 15 wheels not 17s!

I bought 18s look great but I now want lighter ones, I could feel the difference when I switched to stock for winter. I'll be replacing my 18s with 17s but wider then stock, probably 17x8 preferably 17x8.5 maybe even 17.9s so I can fit the 245s I want, will use 235 if I have a 8" wide rim.

Oh and bigger wheels do not get rid of wheel gap, if anything IMHO they visually increase it. But the reality if you select the right tire size so your spedo does not go off then the wheel gap is exactly the same. The radius of the will will be bigger but with the tire having a smaller sidewall then the combined (wheel & tire) radius will be the same as stock.

Did you not read? I said specifically 'POTENTIALLY'.

Also, if you read properly the original post, the 17's were swapped for a set with a wider rim, therefor not getting caught in teh still limited choices of tires for the stock rims.

I can see what you're saying. Most 18"s don't have that stock look to them, although I do think that they are the perfect sized wheel for the Maxima.

Ok that makes sense.. I guess I'm more of a looks kinda guy; but most of the cars shows I go to cars have bigger rims.. 18's and up, except for a few neon's or civic's with 17's..

Yes I read.. Still don't see how it would even be close to potentially when its only an inch bigger than the wheels that are already on the car and from all the pics I've seen and my own car personally bigger rims on the Max look good.. Now certain styles look ghetto. But 18's aren't even 'POTENTIALLY' ghetto... Unless you have a ghetto style of rim and that goes for all sizes..

Are you kidding? Weight is a HUGE factor. You loose power to the wheels, you loose speed, your car handles worse and your suspension wears out quicker. Heavy wheels SUCK!

I know, I mean weight is not a factor b/c all the wheels I picked are within a few pounds of each other. No need to yell that heavy wheels suck, I know this.

Each wheel is about 24-25 lbs. (about the same as stock but a little wider).

Hey not YELLING! (jk) I understand what you meant now "I know, I mean weight is not a factor b/c all the wheels I picked are within a few pounds of each other."

I may end up paying more $$$ than I was planning on wheels because it is so hard to find light, quality wheels for a good price.

I plan on 18x8 / 18x8.5 no narrower with a 235. I am so turned off by a car that looks good on the side, then you get a shot at an angle or the back and there is a 5 foot gap between the wheel and the fender lip. Meaning not enough positive offset and width.

By the way that is a nice wheel you have chosen. Go 18!
