2000 Maxima: Leaking Roof?
2000 Maxima: Leaking Roof?
Hello all. Just wondering if anyone has had leaks in their cars? It rained like crazy here last night. When I got in my car this morning, there was a big wet spot where water was coming in the car. It was located on the passenger door, right where the plastic meets the headliner. Just where the window starts curving down from the top of the car. If you have seen this, were you able to get it fixed by Nissan under your bumper to bumper warranty?
I have been a little disheartened by some posts here on Nissan's service. In fact, when I dropped it off this morning, this guy seemed to already be trying to get out of repairing it. First he asked me how long I had had the sunroof, where did I get it installed. I was like, "well duh, it came with the car". I thought sunroofs were stock on GLE's. This guy knows what the hell he is doing to. I have talked to him before. So I think he was trying to play me for a sucker since he knows I bought it used. Then he starts saying that if there are leaves in the "well" of the sunroof, that is not going to be covered under warranty. So, I said well lets open it and see. As I was doing so, the guy starts saying, "oh well, we need to get it in the back to make that determination". Wha? I opened the sunroof to show him that it was spotless. Then he starts laying into me about seals. And how they will not be covered under warranty. First off, the seals looked fine to me. And secondly, this was like a 30,000 car. The top model of their flagship line. It would be normal wear and tear if it started leaking at 31K miles?
I have to say, I have a really bad feeling about this. This is exactly the type of thing that made me trade in my Camaro. Horrible service. I hope I can post back at the end of the day and say that Nissan took care of it. But this guy seemed to be telling me I was going to pay for this before he even knew what was going on. Sorry for the rant.

There was mention of this a while back. My friend manages an auto glass shop and says that it could be a clogged drain line for your sunroof. Something could be clogging your drain line thus creating a buildup of water in your sunroof. Since it can't drain anywhere, it eventually finds a way out and unfortunately, it's through the inside of your car.
Try blowing it out with some air if you can't see anything.

Pleasantly Surprised

I actually talked to the Nissan guy just a minute ago. He said they can't tell exactly what the problem was yet. But that they wanted me to pick the car up and take it home. Until they got in a new headliner in this week. Because it will need to be replaced once they figure out what is going on with it. But he told me that it was definitely warranty work so not to worry about that. He had totally changed his attitude.
I was telling the courtesy van guy my concern about the service dept seeming to want to bill me for this. When I thought it was something they should take care of. He agreed and we talked about how bad service in the industry had gotten. I told him that is why I sold my last car and would never buy Chevy again. I am wondering if this filtered back to the service rep. Cause between this morning and afternoon, the reps attitude was like night and day. Curious to say the least.
Please let me know what the problem is when you find out! I just had this same "leaking" on my 2000 SE. I discovered a wet spot in the same area you mention, except it was by the driver's seat window on top of the A-pillar where the headliner is. The headliner was soaked. After noting this I checked the backseats and what do you know the the rear passenger side area was also wet!
It didn't seem too bad, but it is ludicrous that a near-30k vehicle is leaking water. As far as I know I never had a problem with leaking during heavy rain. I'm thinking the melting snow on the roof had something to do with it this time around.
