Sirius antenna mounting

i'm thinking about getting sirius, but i'm reluctant because of the antenna. Does it have to be mounted on the roof or can i just mount in by the rear speakers under the rear windshield? If it has to be mounted on the roof, how do i get the wire though the molding without messing up anything?

mount it inside the car between your back speakers.

Originally when I had XM I mounted in on the read deck where the third brake light used to be. Since then I switched to Sirrius and I mounted my antenna on the roof. If your windows are tinted you'll find that you'll hit a lot more dead spots more regulary then having it on your roof.. Take it from me, I had both setups..

The antenna will work mounted on the rear deck, but not very well. You will have more dropouts. Mount it on the outside of the vehicle, I have mine on my trunk, can't even see it unless you look for it, because spoiler hides it. The antennas are also paintable, contrary to popular belief. Think of the antenna like a Satellite TV dish, you wouldn't mount your DSS dish in your attic would you?...has to have a direct 360degree view of the sky. Good Luck!

Oh, and the wiring can be ran a number of ways, none of which require a drill or any permenant mod to the car. The wire coming from the antenna is roughly 18 gauge wire..very small.

i was under the assumption that he had no tint on his windows, cause otherwise i would have said mount it to the trunk lid

Re: Re: Sirius antenna mounting

Actually i do have 5% tint so i guess i have to mount it on the outside. The wire just slips though the molding on the rear windshield? I guess i can't hide it under the spoiler because it'll impede the signle...so where did everyone else mount it? just on the trunk lid between the rear windshield and the spoiler?

You can not compare XM and Sirrus reception in or out of the car...I know a few that have put the sirrus antena on the rear deck with tint so dark they you think the sun went away...Works just as good as b4 with it on the roof.

I just got my windows tinted and my radio reception sucks now. Is satellite radio the way to go? I have an Alpine deck that is XM ready but the tuner is $150-200!

glass does not affect sat reception.. at all. but even the slightest metallic blockage, like painting the antenna with metallic paint or under the glass with tint will block the reception up to 95%.

My XM rocks under the rear glass, no drop outs.. but then again I dont have tint. I also cut, and painted to match the back deck, a small metal square for the antenna.. Its like 8"x8" as I recall.

from clubxm.com

"You can get Alpine's tuner at Circuit City for $99+tax after $100 in rebates (3 days left). I just bought one yesterday for $199, then there's a $50 CC rebate that prints on the receipt, and a $50 online rebate (at RebatesHQ.com, see my post in the main forum for more details). These deals expire Dec 31. Get in quick!"
