Any of y'all got the Sumi's yet? how're they holding up? Are they as good as the tirerack test says? Since i think it's cheapter long-term for me to get some 17x8 rims (probably tantrums) and running the Sumi HTR+ than getting 225/50/17 pilot sports, i'm thinking about getting the rims and the sumi's.

Also, y'all w/ 235/45/17's, how many miles you get out of a set?

 

I have a set of HTR+ in 245/40/18 .... I only have a few 1000 miles on them, but so far they have been great. They are great in the rain and dry handling is also very good. I think they are a great alternative to the Michelins at half the price...

 

they are also very good in the snow too!!!

 

tell me you're playing. how much snow are you talking about? and how many miles do you have on the tires so far?

 

I live in chicago and I have had great luck with 245/45/17's They are not as good as my Dunlop sp5000's but they'll due for now.

 

i just bought some Sumi 235/45/17 for my enkei... they look great and heard they are great but ill post more as i test them out

 

i am about to slap on some 215/50/17 on our stock 17" wheels.
ill let ya know, but all i hear is great reviews.

 

I have a set of 235/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+ on my stock 17s and I think they are great. Unfortunately, I have only put about 1000 miles on them, but they have already been put thru most of the elements. I have had no problem in the rain, but the snow caused me to slip & slide a little bit. Other than chains on the tires though, I can't see many tires being all that great. It is mostly up to how the driver does in the snow. Just an opinion, but I think these tires are all good.

 

Damon, your post is exactly what i'm looking for. it's either running the 235/45's on stock or buying some new rims (i'd rather keep the cash and buy some kicks or something). much appreciate the info.

 

before you do this, and i dont want to start this thread war on tire sizes all over again, PLEASE be aware that the 235/45 on the stock 17s is 1" wider than SPEC ... (8" vs. 7"). for me, atleast, that was too far over spec to consider on my car.

Good lookin out Jerome, but this has been thought about, and a lot of it is gonna be based on other folks' experience. between what i get out of here and another thread that's running i'll decide if it's worth it. already thought about getting the rims and got real nerdy w/ how it'll hit me in the wallet, but best believe that the decision's gonna be well thought out.

I was contemplating what you are doing, going with the Sumi 215/50/17 on the stock wheel. Look at the load rating though, only 91 when spec is 93. That's a difference of 77lbs. I know the contraversy over going wider than we should, but do any wheel/tire guru's want to comment on a lesser load rating?

 

So is 215 and 235 not recommended? I hate the Potenzas on my 02 and from what I have read the Sumi's are the best bang for the buck tire out there for the Maxima. Personally I can't see spending $200 for Michelins and would like opinions on the Sumi's also.

Personally, I always play by the books when it comes to tires. Just not worth taking any chances.
But that's just me...

 

the load rating diff is a lot less of an issue then the width factor, atleast to me and most other tire experts (y2kse!). the speed rating is better than the 93H potenzas.
