i Cleaned my Manifold and Intake

hi there dudz...men all the day i was cleaned my intake and the upper manifold, the lower manifold i clean almost complete...i really recomend if you have time and haynes manual do it by your self...i was almost 3 feets underground when i saw the manifold and intake inside...it was completly dark and theres a lot of dirty...heres i did:

remove the intake, sensors, cables, etc, then i took aout the intake and de IAC sensors and cleaned...men the sensors was like burns..but was just dirty...i spray it with the carburator cleaned STP you can use whatever you want. Then i try to remove the manifold...men the haynes manusl is a bible...theres some f...ing screws very hide...and after some munutes i found it....well...i remove the completly upper intake...OOHH heavy, and cleaned with teethbrush and the spray..i saw the liquid draining...was like burn oil...i was happy to see that and then see my manifold cleaned. Then the lower manifold is more diff...i just clean it with some stuff i didnt remove it cause you should remove the gas, inyectors trail, be careful with the seal an other...so i keep it like that.

then comes the interesting thing..!!! re-installing!!! and star the engine...wowww men you should see the smooth of the engine.

My car has 130,000 miles.

well im started about 3 am and finish like 6:30 pm...but dudz this is a 10000 recomend process...you will never belive it when you see the dirty of the upper manifold and lower.

if you have haynes manual theres all the instruction you need.

i dunno about him, but i did the same thing and was amazed. i've got just under 120k on my 98. took the upper manifold off and used a dremel tool and plenty of other ways i could find to removed stuff and went to work. actually, it pretty much took a dremel tool to get the surfaces back to like new condition. then i polished up everything i could reach. it made a great difference, especially on high end. it took me awhile longer cuz i used the tool and everything and took my time. if i did it again, i'd say about 4-6 hours with the dremeling and such. i recommend it to anyone who has a free weekend with some miles of buildup in their intake!

yeah.

Yeah men i notice a lot of diff now, my car start very fast and smoothy and the high end. I recommend take your time and do it as i told you before you will be almost dead when you see the dirty inside the manifold and intake.

NOTE: Use Throttle Body & Intake Cleaner, not Carburetor/Choke Cleaner for this job.

Don't use "whatever you want." Carburetor-cleaner can foul sensors and strip the OEM coating off the intake surfaces.

Motorcraft and other companies make a cleaner for doing this....the motorcraft stuff I have used is "Carburetor Tune Up" but Seafoam #M and others make similar products. You actually feed it in the intake nearest the TB as you can until the engine stalls....let it sit half an hour, restart it and feed in the rest, then go drive the pants off it....the soaking will lift deposits off valves, the inside of the intake and even the combustion chamber.

A mechanic friend tripped me onto this stuff and it works great. I have had other cars that knocked and pinged, had loss of power when nothing else was wrong....and this method really works.....I owned those same vehicle for a long period afterwards and never developed any sensor problems.

Carb cleaners are fowling because of the oils in them....you can trash your plugs using too much of it. As for teh TB coating...it apparently doesn't work too well anyway.

Your car. Use whatever you want.

How well the anti-fouling coating works isn't really the issue. I wouldn't want a partially stripped-off coating inside my intake coming off over time. Aside from the sensor issue, that's the main reason for not using the carb cleaners.

But hey, knock yourself out!

There's a coating inside the intake manifold? Isn't it all just one big blob of cast aluminum?

And hey, if I went to the trouble of removing it, I would also spend the time to polish the outside so it's nice & shiny! Looking at doing this on my 300ZX as it really makes the engine bay look sharp.

look

for remove the manifold you have to keep on mind....this sh.....t is long....in the haynes manual says "upper intake manifold supports brackets(arrow) acces form above is difficult so be PATIENT!!" so you can imagine the time...but is easy. All this work i made by 4 hours...and the intake manifold, IAC, intake now is like new. very shinny. If you have 300zx and haynes manual just do it.......i need the manual to do the work exaclty as is have to do. Screws tightening sequence, tips etc.

i made that on 2 hours....you are right...to clean every parts is like another hour...to install again all is another hour...so 4 hours but you will enjoy that...and you will know more you car. I save 125 dollars making this job by my self. the dealer told my the total will be 125 plus materials.

well my pro mechanic told me that clean intake will increase the air flow, cause there nos turbulance and no grease so theres not resistence to the air come in. Other thing is you will see a more smooth engine cause the air suck will be more fast and without more engineforce.

That's great sebaxx way to just rip into your car. Did you get the intake made OK, how about your tranny problems how are those going?

I think you may have posted it in another thread but what country did you say your from?

You get the for doing it yourself!

thanks dudz, well my car is ok right now, My tranny is ok at warm temp, when i star the engine and go to driver theres a little hard, i think is the solenoide that has to change soon...maybe in cold conditions the thing is attached to something..and after the car is warm or drive a few meters the tranny goes ok. Im planning to open the oil deposit and try to cleand inside...the haynes manual says how.

Respecting the manifold..wooow the pics that the other member post was the same condition that my manifold and intaka was.
