Got my Magnaflow muffler today...
Got my Magnaflow muffler today...
The Magnaflow is beautifull. Very nice welds, nice finish, good looking tips with the Magnaflow inscription. Seems to be a good solid American product. You can see through one end and out the other so its going to be pretty loud I assume. I also got the 2.5" B-pipe with resonator. If anyone already has this setup please PM me. I will try to have everything installed next week and some sound clips and pictures.

Good grab on the magnaflow, looks real good. Hope it isn't too loud for you. I kept stock just for that reason, too much of a wuss I guess.
As to the headers, Cattman has some kiwi headers on his max and he may bring them out, but no telling yet. Not too much better than the ypipe, everyone else calls em head pipes.

I did it and like it 80-90% of the time
I just had the exact same setup installed in my 2K2 se earlier this month. I got the dual oval slant cut magnaflow muffler. It really looks much nicer than stock but unfortunately there is a major drawback. IT'S TOO FRIGGING LOUD...... When I drove my car out the muffler shop i made it about a mile down the road and had to turn back and have them re-install my resonator. The car was way too loud and sounded very ghetto without the resonator. With the resonator back in the interior noise was dramaticlly reduced but still gets a little too loud for me at 2000rpm when cruising a around 40mph(I have an automatic). I did not like the idea of putting the stock resonator back in because of the crimp in the piping so I had the muffler shop remove it again and instal something they call a turbo tube in its place. This seemed to quiet the system down compared to the stock resonator a little more at highway speeds (ie 60-80mph) but actually seems louder at idle and low speeds. Good luck trying this mod, a lot of my friends love the way my car sounds. The looks on people faces when you stomp on it while passing them on the highway is pricless. I might be getting too old to enjoy the loud exhaust sound inside my car especially since the wife bugs me about it. I will be posting pics of my Max tommorrow after I run it through the car wash...New England winters suck. I do have a pic of the muffler tech on my website, check it out.

They can expand the diameter
The muffler shop can enlarge the inlet side of the magnaflow muffler using their pipe bending machine. I believe the stock muffler section is crushed 2.25 pipe anyway. If you look at it close you will see bends that look smaller than 2.0" in diameter in the stock muffler section.
Just got it installed
I just got the exhuast installed. Everything went pretty smoothly. I would advise not worrying about buying a high flow cat-con b/c the ports on the stock cat are very large.
The shop made a custom crush-bent 2.5" pipe to go from the end of the B-pipe to the Magnaflow muffler. They opened up the inlet in the Magnaflow from 2.25" to 2.5". So everything is 2.5" from the cat all the way to the muffler.
The sound is very nice at all rpm's except 2200-2600. Here there is a very loud drone at any level of throttle input. It has been my experience that most mufflers get alittle quieter after a few thousand miles so we'll see what happens. Idle is very close to stock. The tone of the muffler is very deep and smooth...no rice!
The car feels like it does have more power especially around 5-6K rpms. If you launch the car in first gear and get some wheel hope, the 2.5" B-pipe will knock against that black brace towards the front of the car. I'll probably end up removing it. Overall I'm very happy with the money spent and the power gains.

I just ordered one of the Magnaflow mufflers after seeing the price. If I leave everything else stock on the exhaust and just put the muffler on will it be too loud like both of you have described? I want something louder than stock but dont care for the drone

Its loud, but its not race car like. It won't break up verbal conversation and you won't have to turn the radio up any louder. But the sound does invade the cabin. Its pleasant to me. The drone at low RPMs will take some getting used to and I would classify it as "loud"...but for a muffler with no baffles, this thing is very quiet at all other RPMs.
