Power antenna always up when HU is on

I install a Pioneer DEH-P4100 from my old car into the max. The headunit doesn't have a wire for Auto Antenna only a remote power. So I connected the remote power to the power for the Antenna; now everytime I turn on the radio even to listen to a CD the antenna stays up. Can I do anything so that the antenna only goes up while I listen to the radio?

BTW I have a 99 SE without the Bose system..

Thanks,
John

You could put an on/off switch or relay in line with the lead going to the power antenna.

I had the same head unit on my probe. What i did was that I took apart the headunit ,and using my multimeter, found a wire that turns on with the radio on. connected the antenna wire to that, works like a charm. took me about 5 minutes to find it though. it's there.. good luck..

...and void any warranty that may be on the head unit.

Ah, you squeamish installers. If you don't break it, how do you learn to fix it?

I have a Pioneer P8400MP, and mine does the same thing, but if you think about it; if you switch from your CD to the radio often, I rather just have the antenna up all the time, thats less wear on the power antenna. I say leave it the way it is . .. but if it's really bugging you, bring it to an install shop to install a remote switch.

How many times have you actually used the warranty on a hu? I have bought and used about 10+ hu's and have never used the warranty on it. I was just giving an option.

Jkuan.. sorry i couldn't email you back rightaway but you do have to take the cover off the hu, and the wire you need is right by the power supply. If you are not 100% sure about what you are doing, i recommend you just to install a switch. Good luck.
