Can someone explaine the premium gas?

I have recently purchased Used 99 maxima, I use premium Gas 93 octane. but i don’t know what the pervious owner used. They could of used regular gas. so would that effect my engine? There some engine vibration is that normal, when the car its running normal it’s a little bit of vibration, when I put it in drive it becomes more vibration. I took the car for service, did engine flush, and trainee flush. and did fuel injection cleaning. the transmission its kind of kicks when it changed gears its not smooth like before i changed the transmission oil. Any one with expertise please helps me out. Suggestions, or ideas. Thanks

the use of regular gas(87) wont cause that vibration - engine vibration isnt normal for the maxima - could it be your motor mounts??

Theres something wrong here, do what Cystum Tells you, Premium Gas, our engine is really special, as I was reading this i was shoked, The higher the Octane Gas the longer it takes for our car to eat it, but also it needs it for the injectors, the other stuff is crap, this is what I do though, right before the Gas Gauge reaches the 1/4 point, I go put gas again, depending on the grade i had before ill either put High or Medium Octane, so it will kind of ballance out

Re: WHoa!

That's cool but you must be paying an arm and a leg for premium. I had to give it up. 2.03 for 87 octane here in Orange County, CA

I suggest you do the following:
Replace the PCV
Clean your throttle body
Clean your IACV

There is useful information and howto writeups for all of the above
if you use the search function on this site.

hehe, that's one of the longest sentences I've read recently

I think the 'balancing out' is more justifying to yourself reasons for not using premium every time. The only 'good' that using a lower octane will provide is on the wallet.

Csytum - just do the normal maintenence items like joaquink suggests...maybe check your plugs (oem? or something like...bosch plugs...) and motor mounts like emeraldgxe said. Might test the knock sensor if you're up to it.

Wow, you guys pay $2.50? I don't feel as bad for the $1.60-1.80 for 92 anymore.

Premium gas will get you the better gas mileage period. I've tried midgrade and besides getting some knocking coming from the engine, I also get less mileage. Performance is hindered as well when you go with the lower grade gas. And yes, there is a difference between the gas you buy at a 711 compared to Chevron or Hess (where I by mine). I find that I get more miles on when I buy Chevron or Hess than those other cheap gas places. Test it for yourself and see. Yes, we are paying more for our premium gas, but if we want to continue to enjoy the smoothness and overall horsepower the Maxima has to offer, then we need to feed it well with PREMIUM gas.

It's actually the IACV -- Idle Air Control Valve
Oh, and ALWAYS use premium...do the math...on a full tank, the
extra cost is about $5 a tank...it's TOTALLY worth it...

hope this helps,

JUST BUY PREMIUM AND STOP THINKING ABOUT THE $1 YOU'LL SAVE!!!
seriously...if money is such an issue, perhaps you bought too much car.

There is no better gas. It's all about the anti knock rating aka octane rating. You just need to use the minimal requirement for your specific engine. ie. VQ30DE can get away with 89 octane but you might get engine knock in hot weather under load. Thus, Nissan recommands 92 Octane or above. If you drive a Honda Civic, you are just wasting your money filling up with 92 octane gas. You won't get any performance gain or mileage gains. Ofcourse if your car is nitrous, turbo or supercharged, then you need higher octanes to fight detonation.

It'd probablly work, but you'd end up spending the same amount of $$$(if not more), especially with the extra trip to K-Mart and the hassle of adding the stuff to your tank.
