Throttle body cleaning

Hey guys, my car is idling funny and having a hard time starting, so I'm cleaning my throttle body. I've never done it before and I'm always cautious when I'm unsure of what I'm doing. So, here's a stupid question. When I have the throttle wide open so the butterfly is parrallel, am I supposed to clean BEHIND that plate or just infront? Because the front, honestly is not so much dirty. Thanks. I'm in the middle of it now, so any help would be great.

Clean the entire butterfly valve and the surrounding outer rim of the throttle body. Basically clean as far as you can reach. You car will start kind of rough and might kick out some bad exhaust fumes, but after a little running it will run much smoother and perform better.

Use an old tooth brush and get in there as far as you can. Wipe it clean with a lint free cloth or good paper towels. Just make sure that what you stick in there, comes back out!

best thing to do is unclip the plug on top of the TB and remove the four mounting bolts holding it to the manifold and completely swing the TB up and you can clean both sides and primary main runner part of manifold.
