Starting Noise

When I started my car this morning i heard a slight scrape/grind from the starter. Went to school and everything was fine. Got in the car, tried to start it: same grinding type of sound only worse, and no start. After i held the starter it worked and my car was running fine. Got home. Shut the car off and started it again - no problem. What the hell was up w/ that noise?

Specs: 1995 se - 64k
reset ecu tuesday, drove the car bout 50 miles since then w/ no problems
oil changed regurarly
