Just changed the suspension on my cousins 99 SE

Eibachs and KYB AGX's in 1 hour 45 mins

the only problems we ran into is that they sent him the wrong rear shocks

Car rides sweet.. i don't know how people say that Eibachs are stiff

maybe its becuase i am riding on sprints.. but then again he was going from OEM to Eibachs and he said they were fine also

Eibachs ride just fine I use to have them. but the hour and 45mins thats all four sides or just the front?

I just did this guys car took me 2hrs 15mins with 30mins worth of serious trouble since the 19MM nut was really torqued on there.

Doug's taking over my position.

I have to agree with you on the Eibach ride, I don't understand why people say there stiff? Every install I've done rides awsome! Makes me rethink putting my H&R's in. The H&R's are kind of bouncy, where as the Eibachs ride like a stock SE with AGX's in - nice and firm.

Decisions decisions......

The only thing I do like is the H&R drop, it's perfect on my car.

I don't see how you can say Eibachs aren't that firm Tom. My first setup was Eibach/AGX and I had those on for about 3 months. I got tired of the stiff ride quality so I switched to the highly-acclaimed H&R's. When I switched I immediately fell in love with them because they didn't give me that firm up and down jerk and the ride was a lot more tolerable over road imperfections. Eibach's are a good bit stiffer than H&R's.

As far as bounciness goes..you have to set the AGX's to at least 2/4 in the warm weather or the H&R's can get a little bouncy on ya. If the AGX's are set high enough than the ride's great.

Btw: I had stock 16's w/oem tires and Motivational mounts with both setups.

maybe it feels good because the fronts are on aftermarket struts and the rears are on OEM?? Your opinion might change when you change the rears possibly? (I myself rode in toylets car a few times, and I loved the eibachs)

I find it strange that some springs or cars ride completely different then others with the same setups. The last Eibach / AGX install I did suprised me. They were new Eibachs and the ride was absolutely great. Not stiff at all, felt like a stock ride with the added handling and stability. I even put a set of Eibachs on stock struts for a guy and was even more suprised at that ride. Felt like there was no change in the car's ride except on larger bumps and dips.

H&R's ride pretty good with 16" tires. Alomst like a stock max. Maybe it's the AGX's that are really giving the bouncy ride that gets annoying with some springs, it's hard to say.

So now do I switch to Eibachs or keep the H&R's? Get a set of Tok. Blue's for the front? Spring for Lllumina's or leave the damn car with AGX's at stock ride height? Damn Nissan for that gap!

That aint no deal. Just got an email from Brian Catts and it goes as follows:

We're kicking off the new and long awaited suspension with a pre-release sale. For purchases made prior to April 23, the price is reduced to $1175 for the coilovers, and from to $50 for the camber adjustment kit, a total savings of $200 over retail ($1350/$75). Orders can be called in to our order line, 800.759.9920.
Not sure if the GD includes the camber kit or not.

I have Eibach springs with AGX struts. The ride was pretty stiff for awhile. I tried all sort of settings for the AGXs. Now I have the front and rear at 1. The ride is much better, not stiff anymore.

Tom,

-The only thing I dislike about my ride quality is that you can feel more of the little dips in the road that you couldn't even feel at stock ride height. This is due to the stiff valving of the AGX's. Even when setting them to 1/1, the compression harldy changes at all (adjusting changes rebound) meaning you'll still feel all the tiny imperfections in the road. The H&R's do make those imperfections a lot softer than the Eibachs, but you still feel them.

-I want a shock that has more compression than the AGX's, that can still handle the higher spring rates of a lowering spring.

-I think the smoother Tokicos up front along with the stiffer AGX's in the rear would be a great combo. Only thing is I've heard that the Tokico Blues don't last that long. I also think the Tokico Illuminas, which adjust both rebound AND compression, would ride great when paired with the H&R's. Another option that hasn't been tried by too many members is the Motivational shortened KONI's up front. The jury is still out on those.

-We're in the same boat Tom as far as searching to find the best ride quality on a lowered car, lol. I think Illuminas will fit the bill.

I agree with you totally here. There are two things that concern me. One being the fact that the Toks don't last that long when coupled with sport springs and the second is the cost of the Llluminas vers the possibility that they too will not last and they cost a small fortune! I've very tempted to buy a set of Blues up front and keep my AGX's in the rear when I drop the car.

One thing I'll give the KYB AGX strut credit for, couple them with stock springs and you get one hell of a nice ride with awsome handling. I get compliments all the time when guys ride in my car when I'm at stock ride height. My current setup is 16" Dunlop A2's, stock springs, AGX's set on 2 & 3 Addco bar in the rear and a FSTB. My car is solid as a rock and rides like glass. You can't even come close to that ride when you put sport springs in. I really hate to give that up this summer just for looks. I also don't want to spend any more cash on suspension stuff.

The guy downstairs from me just picked up an Audi S4. Hot car, best is you can lower the car on the stock springs. Bilstein has struts with lower spring perches. Drops the car about 1" but the ride stays the same because the springs don't change. If only we had something like that available for the Max I'd be a very happy man.

If the ride is so great with stock springs then why hasn't anybody thought of lowering springs with the same spring rate as stock SE springs? Would you bottom out all the time or something?

Anyway, keep us updated on what you do Tom. I think I may just keep the AGX's since I'm getting SFC's and because of the fact that the ride is a good bit better in the warm weather.
