My VG is ticking? not vtc
My VG is ticking? not vtc
Well i have noticed a little problem i am having, that i noticed today. Well for the past week or so i have been overheating due to a damaged radiator, and today with the help of N34JZ i got my new radiator installed, any how. I drove home to pick up my gurl and opend the hodd to check to make certain that i am not leaking any fluids.. then i start hearing tick every second. like a couple of them in a second. Could it be the adavnce timing that i did about a few months ago that is catching up to me? I went through a drive though and all i hear was tick tick tick..or maybe a clink... and i am worried about it. I have since then retarded my timing back a little. I run 93-94 octane always. and i get about 340 to the 15 gals tank which is better than i used to get. could there be any other problems? the sound seems to be coming from the alternater side near the distributor. at first i thought it was a heat related problem but the radiator is great and working all hoses are tight and good. no leaks.
also side question? i was under my left front tire near the radiator, any ways looking up from underneath, to the right of return line for the radiator there seems to be a big tube that goes to a cannaster the size of a can of coffee.. i pulled out that tube and nothing came out the tube nor from the "cannaster".. what is the purpose of that cannaster? is it a vaccum of some sort?
damn i feel like a friggen newbee.

true...if when off the ticking could be just the heat expansion or whatever its called when you turn a car off.

that is a carbon canister...suppose to absorb gasoline vapors so it won't make a hazardous condition under the hood.

i have the same problem.....when i start the car...no tickin'...after i drive 4 awhile....the tickin' starts and goes on until i shut off the car.....it's drivin' me crazy!!!!!!
I have the same on my max too, its driving me up the wall
I took her to an automatic trans. guy thinking it was my tranny. He found it to be the belt that goes to the altinator. He put sum lubricant & ticking went away. But it came back after driving for about 30 minutes. Its not a loud ticking, but when I turn down the subs, can hear it!!!!!!!! Sunbody find out. I might go back to him soon

Your problem sounds like the belt is loose or the bearing for the idler pulley is worn out from someone over tightening the belts in the past...I had this problem on my 92 since the guy I got it from used a mechanic that didnt beleive in the correct tension of belts or wasnt paying attention.

for me a taping sound is hard to figure out without being in front of it to listen and see where its coming from.

I was replying to Edzmax with my post. Yours may be that too but was just telling him that since his was quieted by spraying something on it that it might be the things I listed.
