where the *&*#@! did my oil go?

Well, my oil level has gone from F to L in 3 weeks. First of all, does anyone know how much oil it takes to get from full to low?

There are no oil spots on the driveway, and I'm not burning any oil, as far as I can tell. Would the best thing be to take it in for a pressure test?

How do you tell?

If "...There are no oil spots on the driveway..." then I think you most likely are burning some oil. I may be wrong but just my $.02

There is no burning oil smell, and no white smoke at all, so it doesn't seem likely to be burning. The real question I still have is this: How much oil have I lost going from the the top of the "full" reading on the dipstick to "low" ?

1 quart. Let it sit overnight and check it on a level surface before starting it up

I've been having oil problems too. I have a '95 SE w/ 152k miles on it. I'm burning about a quart every 750 miles. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'd really like to figure it out because I'm sure it's not good for the engine!

Oil burns blue, water comes out white. It could be venting out through the pcv valve - have you replaced that lately? I bet your intake will need to be cleaned too. Also, high revs and hard driving will consume more oil than 'normal' driving.

Re: where the *&*#@! did my oil go?

My friend had this problem also with her Prelude. She would lose 2L of oil in under 1000km

A mechanic "theorized" it was her vavle seals were at fault... so it wasn't good.

Maybe someone can verify, but a leak down test might show where the leak is & if it's a valve or ring that's faulty?

What is a leak down test? How is it performed?
