Infinity I-30 vs. Maxima questions
What models and years of the Infinity have the same VQ engine as the 4th gen Maxima? 5TH gen? Are the 94 and older I-30s powered by the VE engine? Some one told me they are really the same car just more expensive, and engines are the same. Thanks Dan
Same engine, same car. However, in 2000 and 01 the car is the most different, yet more closely priced then ever before making it a value to consider. For example, my I30 has 5 more HP then all Maxima’s except the AE, and has Limited Slip, HID lights, all body panels revised, power rear sun shade, adjustable rear head rests and much more.
For the 4th gen, its was basically the same car with a different front and rear clips, and slight different interior amenities, but thats it. Same engine has always powered the I30 as the Maxima. Sometimes the chips were re-programed a little different to give the infiniti a little more spunk.

Dan, first of all, it's Infiniti, not Infinity.
All the I30s share the VQ motor with the Max. They were first introduced in 1996. The cars are the same for the most part, except for minor trim differences, better sound-proofing, and VLSD in the I30t. Some people claim that the I30s have been through a more rigorous quality control, but I have not seen proof of that. If you are looking for a 5 speed car you may have to settle for the Max as I30s with manual transmission are very rare.

Infiniti questions
Thanks for the info. I not only want to learn more about them, I am thinking our WarpSpeed y-pipe will probably fit them as well, so am looking for their forum. Anyone with a web address? Thanks Dan
5 spd I 30's
Well yep 5spd I30T's are quite rare for a few reasons,1 of which is my I30T's origanal price tag was almost $34K when it was new + luxory taxs in 98 was for any car that was over $32K so that's another $4K for tax+regular tax, which than made my car about $40K new and most people who bout a $40K car did not want a 5spd since they were on average in there late 40's to 50t's+.Also 5spd I30's were only available in the more expensive I30T models which are some what rare in them selves. For #;s of 5 spd's made I have heard there were only 500 made a year and I have also heard only 2.5% were 5spd's that were made each year which sounds about right. As for the differences in 96-99 I30's compared to max's, The I30T's came with a VLSD, traction control, perferated leather seats, exterior chrome accents auto rear dimming rear view mirror,Thermometer, chrome interior door handels, front bumper/grill,fog ights/cornor lights, headlights, hood, front 1/4 panels, rear 1/4 panels, rear bumper, trunk, and spoiler nad tail lights were all different and almost forgot the wheels are different. On 99 1/2 Limeted models they also recieved chrome door sills, special carpets and a Limeted badge on the exterior. Also 96-99 got approx. 150 Pounds of exter sound detinating materials and worse gas mileage 21/26 {but I have found it to be a bit better actually}, best of all you get a 4 year 60K mile bumper to bumper warranty and 6 year 70K mile powertrane warranty backed up with Infiniti's awesome costumer service/care {free car wash, rental, tank of gas when ever it's serviced}.All in all it is quite simalar to a max but at the same time is very different in many aspects.Anyways good luck finding a I30T 5spd because I only found 1 1/2 in over a year of searching{the 1/2 is because I am not sure if this one ever existed}.

xHypex, I don't know the exact % of 5spd I30s, but I read somewhere that Infiniti made only a few thousand. It took me a long time to find my car, and it was by chance that I found one at an Infiniti dealer. I got a great deal on it because it was a stick.
Thanks for the info guys. I love my Max, and it being a 99 with only 30k I'll probably keep it for a long time. After this car I'm not sure what to get, but I like to keep an eye out. I wouldn't mind upgrading to an I30 5spd. with nicer trim, and with the Skyline coming out in 2003 thats plausible as well. Have you guys had any more problems with aftermarket parts, or has everything been easy since your car is basically a Max?

If you plan on upgrading to a I30 5spd,
you may run into trouble because the 5spd was only made on 96-99 I30T's,in 2K they stoped making them because of lack of demand, heres the solution get a VLSD 5spd 2K1 AE max's 5spd trany and concert it into a I30.This would be rather expensive though aprox. $4K.
Doug were the hell were you a month ago when I was looking all over for a I30T 5spd, I live on the bordor of CT/R.I. too. Just curios what year is the one your talking about?

If you look in the front, You can see the I30 and the Maxima has the same size of that where you can do next:
Q: I am trying to intal the front bumper of the I30 to my maxima? did anyone did that?
