OPEC gas prices..went down...now going back UP

OMG...okay...i just heard on the news, that OPEC will cut production of oil...now. Gas prices have gone down about 10-20 cents per gallon here in the bay aera. Chevron supreme in my aera is about 2.09. It was about 2.39 a month or two ago. Prices went down due to the good results of the war. Now why the f*ck do they hafta cut prodcution and make prices go back up. OMG they havent even gone down under 2.00. I wanna shoot who ever makes thoes decsisions, and drown them in oil. and shove a gas nozzle up their a$$ and fill em up. Sorry for the rant, I havent really put a FULL Tank of gas in my maxima since prices went over 2.05 a gallon. How sad.

My Maxima has been sitting in my garage for the past month for various maintenance reasons I need to take care of. In the mean time, I've been driving my 110 HP Mazda 626 and been getting 32 MPG on the city and HWY combined. It's great, I can accelerate pretty fast and not suffer much fuel economy out of this low-powered 4-banger. Also, a tip to deal with the gas prices for the AAA member...they offer a credit card through Visa that gives a 5% discount when you purchase gas from any credit card accepting pump...I've saved $20 so for the year 2003. I use it for just gasoline since the 5% only applies towards the purchase of gas. Card has no minimum or finance fees. The nice thing is the 5% is a discount, not a rebate...unlike my Fleet credit card that yields a 3% cash rebate at the end of the year.

it's so much more complex than that. Saudi Arabia is basically the only ME country with sufficient supply/resources to up their output on demand. They did so in order to make up for the shortfall of the war (Iraq's output hasn't been counted in OPEC output since UN 1491 passed) and the fact that Venezuela was going to take a month or two to ramp back to full production from 2/3 production after their strike. You're not dealing with a 100% correlation to cost of a barrel of oil in CA either. CA changed the required blend, ethanol instead of methanol as I recall, but didn't factor in what it would take to get that fuel to market. Further, you have a far higher proportion of government taxation in your gas prices than the rest of the country. Now you also have to factor in a willingness-to-pay factor in the supply/demand equation. Look at production from within the US, OPEC, Mexico, etc. Consider stockpiling for the US strategic reserve and so on. You also have to consider the generic rise in oil prices due to summer vacations. That increase is expected to be larger this year than in the past because more Americans are deciding to take local or drive-only vacations this year vs. travel abroad or flight vacations.

I know its much more complicated..and i think i read through some of that econ class. Its just kinda sad....Its just hopeless. I dont think gas will ever be at 1.50 for regular again.. Its very true that more people will be flying, i will be flying to Disneyland (south cali) instead of driving the 400 miles..screw that.

When gas breaks the $3 mark, then I'll worry. You guys have to admit that gas prices have been extremely low with very little increase compared to inflation. OPEC is a huge money maker and I don't quite understand their reasoning, but they're free to do what they want. hey still give us a huge break in price compared to other regions. Just be happy you don't live Europe where gas prices are ~$4-6 a gallon. A $0.20 increase means I'll be spending an extra $136 a year(15K miles/yr) or a mere $11.33 a month. I won't even notice it.

Expensive gas means a few things to me, fewer SUVs and continued slow sales of new cars which equals lower prices
