cruise control won't work above 90?

I left late for work this morning, and i had go really really fast(the speedometer was in the triple digits) to get there on time. Before you guys some down on me, understand the highway i was on was basically empty, and there's like 10-20 mile stretchs of flat road and no exits, so THERE WAS NO ONE TO WORRY ABOUT BUT MYSELF. Now my question: Is it just my car, or does anyone else's cruise control stop working past 90mph? If you know, then give me a response, if not DON'T try and find out the answer.

your ecu has a limiter for it! Stock thing! Change ecu's if it means that much to you! They all are the same!

Yah, Mine does this also.
If I accelerate with the Cruise control buttons, it lets me go a couple miles per hour faster, like 91-92.
I bet it's related to the fact that you can fall asleep with the car doing it's own thing and wreck at 90 mph.

All Cruise Controls for the Nissan Maxima will limit the cruising speed to 90 MPH; GLE, SE and GXE alike......

Another thing to notice is if you have a 5speed, and you engage the clutch while cruisecontrol is on it will just rev to redline - BAD news...bad design.

On my 99 the cruise shuts off when I disengage the clutch. Actually it shuts off when I even tap the pedal. GREAT design!

If your Maxima does this, there's something wrong with it. Mine will disengage when hitting the clutch, just the same as it does with the brake.

Nah.. if you tap the clutch you'll kill the CC but if you just pop the stick out of gear into Neutral WITHOUT touching the clutch it'll bounce off of redline rev limiter till she blows.....

That's an odd design....

When I have my cruise on it seems like it acclerates and jumps back down and continues to do this like every 10 seconds or so. I watch the speedo and the rpms and they are fine, but I sware it feels like the acclerator is pressed just a tad bit more and you can feel the torque, then it goes back to normal. Anyone have this problem before?

its probably just adjusting for the grade of the road, or are you talking about something else? sometimes it feels like my cruise is snapping my neck back when i press the accel button or the coast button and then let go...

And may i ask why the hell you would be popping the stick out of gear without engaging the clutch? WHILE using CC!?!

not a bad design just a bad driver. and you should have a rev limiter so you won't blow your engine

cool

haha i remember when my friend was teaching me how to drive stick on his brand new rsx type S... i had no problem till he let another friend of ours try. The fool tried to shift w/o pushing the clutch in and was like "hey it's stuck" while the car was making grinding noises. Damn it was funny

You can shift just fine without using the clutch. It just takes a little practice.

Hey check to see if your throttle cables are tight. On the TB one is for the cruise and one is for the pedal check both. I had some slack in mine and it was causing the same thing.

There is nothing wrong with this. When you are going up a hill it has to give an extra umph! to maintain speed. If you are going down a hill, it needs to take a breather. It does this very well i might add. It's very subtle. Just to let all you know, my cruise works wellll above 90mph.

I'm assuming it's an automatic....

If so, it's probably just the 'lock-up' torque converter kicking in and out. The torque converter has a 'clutch' inside that locks the unit up direct in high gear under light loads. My car cruises around 2700 rpm at 80mph. On a steep hill (common around here) the converter will 'un-lock' and the revs will jump up to around 3000 until the hill flattens out a little.

Good Luck!

you're absoloutely wrong! All ECU's aren't the same! Think before you post!

Anyway, wow, i leave this thread expecting one answer and find 3 pages. I also noticed that the CC buttons don't always work. I'll hit RES, and it won't kick in. I'll wind up having to accelerate by the pedal and then hit SET again....i dunno, maybe my CC switch needs to be replaced.

I also noticed that the pedal will move itself slightly will CC is on, like it goes "limp" when you turn CC on, but i'll readjust my legs, and it'll be further down, or higher up.

True, but it's not the best thing to do for your syncros....and definitely not something you need to be doing at 90mph with the ****ing cruise control on.

Re; the original post: Mine won't set above 90 too. That used to annoy me when I would drive Boston -> Rochester on the thruway. My CC also disengages when I touch the clutch.

It won't blow, it willjust bounce off the rev-limiter which you could do all day. It's definately not good for the motor to bounce off the rev-limiter for extended periods, but it will not blow the engine. Now if you downshift in 2nd at 90mph, then you run the risk of blowing the motor because the rev-limiter won't work. No rev-limiter on any type of car would stop the motor from spinning.

Uh.....that doesn't happen to me....5spd conversion with 5spd ECU - When depressing the clutch, cruise turns off and the revs simply drop.

Maybe this is a benefit of a conversion.....?
